I LOVE how Nacre looks and decided to try to get a GMT-able RS stallion to put it on. After a day of camping out the HH daily posts, I got lucky and got a Wet and Wild boy (pearl carrier - yes!! This gene looks so awesome on pearl).
I decided to throw an Appy gene on him before another pearl/cream since the gene also looks so good with bold white patterns. Boy did I get bold! Turns out he is homPATN1. You can't really see the Nacre very well at all, except in his mane and tale. Oops... xD

I still love him though! He's gonna throw me beautiful babies. Now I'm just gonna save up for the Long and Luscious tack pack to show off his best side! -
I love the more subtle look, personally, so I think he's stunning! And long and Luscious will definitely look stellar on him!Thanked by 1Spectrum

I love how it looks on bay, black, and the lighter colors when either appy or toby is added to the horse. I think it's just stunning.Thanked by 1Ammit

Oh Cheval, yours is such a looker!!
Yeah, I love how it looks great on both darker coats and lighter coats - just in different ways! You just can't loose ;D -
Agreed, I really like it with the bold white patterns cutting through the color -- makes it look more like mother of pearl to me.
But then, I had the same basic idea as Cheval... ;)

I love the subtle look! Plus you can experiment with different mares to find what looks best on foals.

Our boys looks like they could be twins, Genever! I love his first foal too, what a gorgeous show pony. Out of curiosity, why did you remove his Dun and not the Grey gene?
Thanks too, Lilac and KA. Your compliments are reassuring - I was afraid to put the cream on him in case it would mute the colors even more. But after reading the replies I did and I'm even more happierer with the results than I was before!!
Now I just have to wait until next season to breed him... :| -
I actually like the way grey looks -- with this gene and without it -- and I have some grey mares that I didn't really have a plan for until this gene came along. So it seemed silly to pay to take the grey off if I was just going to be adding it back to the line from the dam's side. :)
For the dun... I like some shades of dun but not all of them. Champagne + dun makes this lemony yellow color which is just not my thing. I recently pruned out all my champagne dun horses, so I didn't want a stud that might add them back! -
Thanks for explaining! I'm really happy to see a gene that you like how grey looks - I do too, but always felt like the market for greys is awful. Hopefully this gene changes that a little, eh?
-
It might! It is nice to get a fantasy gene that specifically looks pretty on grey.
I can see why it is unpopular -- it covers up so many of the things that people specifically breed for. I definitely try to keep it separate from my other lines. But it's so pretty, and I think the gradual change can be fun. At any rate, this seems like the perfect time to breed up a little herd of grey (and rainbow) show ponies.
Edit to add: I also just ended up with a filly who looks a lot like our studs! She didn't inherit the grey, so her spots are here to stay, too.

I am curious to see what Nacre and WaterColor look like together lolDivineDreams ~ 30908
