Okay, so I created this, in my opinion, stunning buckskin appaloosa. Now I happen to be a bit of a sucker for buckskins and appy so naturally you put them together and I melt, she doesn't even really show her appy but I still love her. Hahah. That aside this lovely lady just struck me as a bit darker than normal even with the hom sty. I went to my favorite saved DP guides and, to my relatively untrained eye, I think she is het DP. I went ahead and crossed her with an RS Dark Chocolate stud (just because) and got the lovely stud colt below. I'm thinking he's also het DP but wanted a second opinion. So, thoughts on these two?

Since both of them have dominant Extension, it can be hard to tell if DP is present. I'm commenting to bump this up so it will, I hope, be seen by someone who is more experienced with DP in bay and buckskin horses.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Your RS stud is hom DP, so it could cloud the results a little. I'm pretty sure your mare is het DP though, she's a bit darker than what you'd expect from an average sooty buckskin.
This is what you'd expect from a hom DP with no At and your girl is just a shade lighter!

@Bourbon - Thanks! One of my favorite DP forum conversations that I have saved is the one where you posted all the pics with buckskins with varying degrees of sooty/dp. :) I think that next season I'll put her with a non-dp stud and see what happens/try to prove that she has dp. Realizing of course that if she's het she may or may not pass it along.
