Old Leveled Off Geldings
-
I had finally saved enough hb's to buy the IV's for merging my two accounts. Unfortunately, my old account was pretty inactive. All of my show geldings have aged considerably and have leveled off. Is it worth keeping them when they have had little to no training after leveling off? I've thrown them in a few shows, and wasn't impressed.
Here is one with a short show record: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=862980
Here is one with more showing: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=793551 -
The questions I always ask myself when considering selling a horse is can this horse be replaced? Can these points be replaced?
And when buying a horse to replace another horse I ask is this horse Younger with the same or more points (or likely to have the same or more points by the time it as as old as the horse it’s replacing)
Right now you could easily replace both horses total points by a single yearling create horse for less than the amount you’d get selling both at auction.
I’ve been selling yearling show horses with up to 199points for $3500 which would give you the same or more daily profit and a $1,500 profit in the bank by trading those 2 in for a yearling that has another year and a half real life years to earn more points and you more money in the bank.
Or if your account has less than 20,000points create 2 new creates and most likely double your daily show bonus these 2 horses give you -
Those are very good points, Riley1119. Thank you for the advice!

Your welcome. It was one of my strategies for the reach for the stars contest.
I’d fill up my barn with pointed show horses and then the last stall needed to be filled with a horse that had more points than the lowest pointed horse in my herd. Then I would send to the auction however many of the lowest pointed horses I could exchange for the same # of points or just below the new horses points so that my total points was always growing but my # of horses was shrinking so I had space for more new horses -
Also an older horse that has been sitting around training but not showing could be a gold mine if you start showing and it’s placing in the middle to top of the class. I took a risk on a 17year old 18 point horse and a 20 point mare 1 week before roll over intending to send them back to the auction the last one of the month. They had 118-120 points by the time it was time to enter them so I kept them and crossed my fingers they’d survive roll over. He did but his sister didn’t. When he passed the next month he had over 340 points from being consistently shown.
But an older horse that has been sitting around not training will not be in a high enough level to really add a ton of points to their total even if they place high consistently.
