Baby Fuel Updates

Ah spring, what a wonderful time of year. Flowers begin to bloom, birds start to scream, and those past eleven months of torturous waiting should come to fruition.
This year we only have one mare expecting, my personal favorite, and this is her first foal. I'm absolutely losing my mind waiting to see what she throws me now that we are at day 338, which means it can happen at absolutely any point in time. She goes back and forth between showing signs and acting completely normal, having an immense bag and no bag at all, a tail so limp a stiff wind could blow it away and a tail viced down like iron. Saturday night we thought for sure it was going to happen; baby had obviously moved back, had been quiet for a couple days, mare was restless, and all the other little signs were there. On top of that, following some gorgeous 50F weather, we had a record snowfall that topped out at 11.2".
Now that I'm looking at my handy dandy calendar, I would almost bet that I'm going to get an April Fools baby since there's a full moon on the 31st. Plus I'm away for the first big show of the year Friday night and most of the day Saturday. Fingers crossed she goes tonight during the thunderstorms... I'll post a picture of the mama to be in a bit. :) -
Fingers crossed for a healthy foal before you leave Friday! Can’t wait to see pics!
-
Exciting times - I hope all goes well and yes we need pics :)

Here are a couple pictures of my prego eggo from her "maternity" shoot. I'm an antsy nancy waiting on this one. I might have to wear scuba gear to find the barn this evening haha -
Aww, she's stunning! What does dad look like?Thanked by 1Phenergan

I don't have any non-watermarked photos of the stallion so can't post them here, but he's a lovely 16.3 black overo friesian sport horse. Not my normal since I usually breed registered Irish Draught sport horses, but still going to be a phenomenal athlete.
-
I'm so anxious to see pictures! So excited for you!
-
I bet the foal will be beautiful! Can't wait to see pictures :)
-
She's stunning! I hope baby arrives before you need to leave home!
-
Thanks all! I'm going bonkers waiting on this one since it's really such a wild card! Stallion also has two blue eyes so that's thrown into the mix and my prego eggo is a tested W20 carrier with an unaccounted for white ticking throughout her coat (these photos are not good to tell from and I've not any to upload from this particular computer). I'm not apt to say she's rabicano since she has no skunk/coon tail even though it's centered around her flanks and belly, but certainly not roan nor sabino since she's a thoroughbred.
Update on my daily torture: Our bag was absolutely immense last night and when feeling, it was leaking. No little bub made it's appearance known last night during the thunderstorms but it seems like it will be soon. My fingers are still very much crossed that it happens before Friday. (To be honest, I was hoping extremely hard for last Friday night as that was my own birthday). -
Did you test for sabino?
She's gorgeous. -
Goliath, thoroughbreds don't actually carry any form of SB1 or splash. All of those crazy marked TBs are some form of dominant white, usually W5 or W2, or a combination with W20 since it amplifies the white markings usually.
It's pretty interesting stuff, though. :) -
We're still waiting on the little bub to make it's appearance, but it is going to be very very soon. Behavior has changed even further on my mare and there's definitely pressure. I'm putting money down that it's going to be tonight or tomorrow night for the full moon. Fingers crossed for tomorrow night since I will be home.
You learn an awful lot about your horses when you sit out on foal watch through the night. Prego eggo has lead us on many times this past week so we've been taking shifts sitting out there to keep an eye on her at night so we can be there should we need be. She is a very relaxed mare in general and her favorite hobby has always been sleeping while laying down (or playing in the biggest mud puddle ever or water complex...). Last night my finger was on the button ready to get the whole crew out there for it because "Oh goodness! It's HAPPENING!". She was laying down flat out on her side and grunting and groaning, my heart was racing when she let out a squeal. Seconds later, she began moving her uppermost hind leg. My giant mare was dreaming! It was comical but also not because I'm ready for her to pop and let me get some good sleep! Seconds later, she got up and continued on about her night.
Big red mare thinks she's a comedian. -
What a beautiful lady she is! Best wishes for a speedy end to your waiting and a healthy foal.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Oh man! I've been following a few other mares that expecting any day now too! Everyone is betting on having April fools babies :-))
Another mare that I really like is getting bred this weekend so that's also really exciting
Love chestnut mares. Can't wait to see the little babe.----

Found a non-watermarked photo of the stallion.
Still no little one. She's holding on tight through some crazy weather. Around 4" of rain, we had 3" of snow on Monday, it's about 65F today with more snow to come. Yet the prego eggo will not drop me her baby. -
He's here! Born at noon today, she surprised us all completely! His name is fuel because I'm missing an Indy Fuel hockey game to just sit and watch my handsome little colt. He is the spitting image of momma except he has two front white socks in addition to her hand markings.
Here's a small album from the first hour or so of his life. He's very active and athletic as can be! He's going to be a superb sport horse!

Thanks everyone! Vet has been out and absolutely loves the devil out of him. He's a very big boy and extremely active for a newborn. Vet thinks he'll be over 17hh at mature height which is ideal! He's already almost chest high on me and I'm 5'8". We took his IGG a little early because his umbilical needed a stich placed to help it stop from bleeding (it had torn at one point before I made it out there). Vet thinks he'll be normal on the scale even though the test should really be taken in the morning.
Momma is GREAT! Very attached to her little one and stays very near like an old pro. You honestly wouldn't believe she's a maiden with how good she's being (other than, you know, foaling at noon with absolutely no warning signs). I'm so happy she threw her amazing shoulder, Fuel has quite a bit of potential based on that alone.
One other little funny thing is that he's a very independent bugger. Bringing him and momma in from the field and he decided that following mom was boring and "OOOH! I haven't seen that before? What is that weird flying thing?!" He went trotting off in the opposite direction and didn't give two flying farts that momma was panicked! He's going to be fun in a few years :) -
Congratulations! I remember my own foals years ago all came when no one was expecting it. He's a beautiful boy.~☼~Welcome to Burnt Hill Creek Farm

Fuel is going to be a delightful little fellow to train as he ages. He's been one of my easiest babies ever and one of my nicest movers. Already he is well on his way to being halter broke. Truth be told, I'm already quite partial to him! It doesn't hurt that he looks like his momma and she is my baby girl. I wish I could have gotten pictures of it, but last night I spent some time snuggling with Addi in the barn with her head in my lap and Fuel on the other side.
I won't lie, I'll likely have a few picture explosions at some point just because I'm an enamored pony mom. -
So cute - congrats :X
-
Can’t wait for cute foal and weanling and yearling photosand awkward adolescent pics and oh he’s started on groundwork/longlining/under saddle videos! So much to look forward to for little Fuel!Thanked by 1Sunlit

Some more Fuel pictures(and his mom's Bend or Spot)! He's going to be MASSIVE! Things that he has encountered so far include tarps, shopping bags, bridges, cones, and a single ground pole. He leads very well and will even "lunge" both directions (kept at a very minimum). He's a goofball for water and will play in the water trough (Curse you, Addi! Not a habit I wanted you to teach!). -
The "smile" picture kills me. Makes me smile. :D
Simply love him.
Love mom's spot too. What causes that?
