The Reach For The Stars contest was announced two months ago with a plan to better understand the new user experience and to get a feel for how fast a game account can really grow. In the end 6 accounts where able to purchase upgrades with hbs and tons of players where about to obtain extra barns. The way people optimized their play surprised me, and the contest did some interesting things to the game economy. Figuring out who really "won" was also a challenge. Lots of factors like simple luck and geographic location influenced this contest and it was difficult to figure out a fair way to pick winners.

Here is the system I came up with. I selected 6 categories that I feel were a measure of success in a contest about building a show barn. The 10 ten from each category will get points based on their placing in that category. I will then tally up the points for each player and announce the overall final places.

Here are my personal takeaways:
-Auction breed and dump, game breathtakingly overpowered. The combo of printing money plus being able to overstuff your primary barn to do it is a really bad loophole on my part.
-New member income is broken. It's on my priority list to address.

I have been going back and reading all the posts related to this Contest. I missed the entry as a truly brand new player on Feb 6th and wouldn't have had a clue how to play anyway...I was still in the "oooo aaahh...so pretty...MUST buy" stage lol. The contest obviously influenced and distorted to some degree the way the game plays from an economic standpoint and being fairly new it is my only experience. I am intrigued by how things are going to look from here on out. Will the game return to the pre-contest status quo or will it have lasting ripple effects that alter what it was before?

I started off spending every penny I had on as high pointed horses I could find but then after 2/3 weeks I realised if I didn't do any breed/dumping I'd not have a chance of keeping up with the leaders. At this point I really had too few stalls available to make all that much money. I'd have been a lot further down if it hadn't been for a lucky 250k lottery win :)
It's been a really interesting competition, the difference in the market is amazing and I think the effects may last a while.

Since I didn't do any of the breeding and dumping there was no way I could keep up but I wanted to see what I could do without it, which sadly wasn't much. But oh Well! I merged my accounts and got some nice show ponies out of it :)

Congrats to the winners. I tried not to breed and dump. I'm pretty happy with how many points I amassed in such a short time. I was constantly running out of barn space and having to use the pasture as extra storage. Saving up the IV's for a barn and keeping up with buying more show horses was really tough. Specially when the prices were so high.

thanks Ammit was fun, congrats to the winners. I tried not to breed and dump I did breed some to sell but also kept some as upcoming show ponies was happy how I moved up from 70s to around 44. would also like to hear other peoples strategies . Getting high pointed show ponies helps with daily hb and gives you more money to buy ivs horses ect. I might keep this account and continue and see if i can get a basic upgrade :)
