LP question
  • Hi all! I'm fairly new here, and I have a question about in-game LP. How exactly did I manage to get an LPLP mare (hom W20, medium WF) who is solid buckskin? I have multiple apps with one LP and no PATN that are marked, so I'm curious. Thanks!

  • The spots do vary. The rule of thumb is that is you want more spots, you always add PATN1, and if you want less spots, you go for ECA3P+. A hom ECA3P+ horse with no spots is certainly not unheard of, however this is my first time I have seen one that is hom Lp as well, however I only keep appies with PATN1.

I did a quick search and came across these horses as well. Hom Lp, hom ECA3P+, no spots. The varnishing may make spots appear later on in life:

  • The secondary gene of Appaloosa has more to do with ground covered in white than spots, really. PATN1 gives you a wider blanket, but LpLp takes out most of the spots and gives you a solid white area.
  • Thanks for answering! It didn't dawn on me to search for more LPLP horses with no PATN to compare to. lol
I have a couple het LP no PATN horses with spots or more definite roaning, including another buckskin. I got Dry Town from a hom LP herd helper so what looks like a solid buckskin was a surprise for sure, but at least the genetics are there. I'll just have to make sure I use her with my het LP hom PATN stallion. :)

  • @RoseFlute, that was what I thought, but then I got LPLP with no obvious white except for the W20 factor. :)

  • I meant that LpLp just takes what white is present and removes the spots of base coat color, leaving the white behind, but not affecting the boundaries of the white. :)
  • @RoseFlute Ah, gotcha! Yeah, hom LP varnish roan doesn't usually work that way in reality from what I've seen. lol They roan fast even with no PATN for the most part, and usually the roaning uncovers spots.

Color genetics has always been a bit of a hobby so I'm liking this game a lot, I'm just trying to learn what the game's genetics algorithms produce. I've seen real het LP foals with no PATN or spots at birth look like a leopard by three, but then there are the ones with LP and PATN who have one random dark spot for life, too. It's one of the reasons I love Apps so much. :)
