New Riding Horse/Pony Lines?
  • Is anyone considering creating all new lines for their riding horses/ponies? I am not sure if I just want to just start incorporating them into my current lines. Or if I want to have them separated from my warmbloods and their own project. The first option would be cheapest but the second more fun. Decisions, decisions! I'm curious what fun plans everyone else has.

  • I'm doing a little bit of a combination lol. All of my foundation mares who werent favorites, already in the pasture, or had a lot of points are in the auction right now. The new mares will all be riding horse mares and crossed with my warmblood boys. But once I get a nice appy riding horse stallion he will be getting the snowflake gene :) Those are as far as the plans go for now haha
  • Weeeell, I haven't thought about it before, but now I think a brown splash/sabino line could be fun. :)
  • I'm thinking of a DP line with patterns. Maybe a dark red dun line. I'm not sure! Lol.
  • @Salvistar, I have been contemplating this as well. I was just putting my KP line into action when this beautiful new riding horse came out and I am in love with it. I have taken out the medium built mares that I was on the fence about and will slowly be replacing them with new light build mares. I'll also be auctioning the ones I think should have a chance to produce foals and spaying those I pick to keep as show horses. However, I've invested a lot into my medium built warmblood stallion, I put KP and Sabino 1 on him, so I will be keeping him around and merging the two styles. I hope the foals will favor their dam's lighter build.

I'm still iffy about breeding my medium built warmblood stallion with the medium built mares I kept since their offspring would probably continue to produce medium build. I'm hoping to eventually get a Rank Special: Vault of Stars stallion in the new light build to replace my current stud (a rather handsome stud I'm fond of). A lofty goal but one that will be soooo rewarding in the end.
  • I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do yet, though if the perfect HH for my classic champagne appy line comes up I will probably make that a riding horse line (at the moment my prospective stallions for that line are warmbloods, as are most of the mares). I may also start a line of tobianos...maybe tobi ponies? Sheee-ittt.......I think I just started a new line....curse curse curse curse!

What I do know is that if light horses are out now, heavy horses are likely to follow at SOME point....so I'm already planning a line of bay/wild bay/black Sabino/splash/frame Clydie style ponies, and maybe a dapple gray/black line too...(this is NOT me whining or agitating. This is me being excited about future possible developments in the game!)
  • I was thinking the SAME thing about the heavy horses, Cheers.

As for lines, I was thinking of redoing my greys as light horses, since my own RL Arab is grey. :D
  • I think Drafts are even coming out later this week. A close reading of the Riding horses/ponies forum post gives that impression, anyway. :P :D
  • @Cheers, Abbey Road, and RoseFlute, I am ever hopeful and excited that a draft style will come out too!

I already have my Silver Black Tobiano Sabino in mind, lol. Which fits perfectly with my current line. My hbs bank account thanks me for my consistent love of all horses black, tobiano, and sabino - with the added pleasure of silver. The other wonderful thing is, is that I would be perfectly content with a mix of the light style and the draft. Though, I wonder if that means the cross would make a medium build... hmm... So many fun possibilities!! :D
  • Draft will be awesome. This new light line is great. I'm drinking my coffee and going on a create spree. Some of the colors I got

  • The drafts will be super fun too. I'll definitely have on or two specific color draft lines.

And there could be others coming down the line!

Also remember that the regular warmbloods will be getting redone too soon :)
  • I am thinking I will start a new line also with the lights. It will give me the opportunity to breed for another look, I have so much invested in my silver rabicano warmbloods that I have been hesitant to start doing something else with them.

Draft size would be fun also! Which means more barns and more ponies. I am going to need to get an upgrade soon, I am starting to think that tattoos will become mighty handy to keep track of everyone. Up to now I have been doing OK by just keeping separate barns.

  • You all are wanting to treat them like breeds but they are not. They are like heights. You breed warmbloods with light enough bones they become riding horses. You can turn all your warmblood lines into riding horses with careful breeding and vice versa. Wont be long and light boned horses will be appearing spontaneously from medium lines and the other way around.
  • Interesting. Is Height a factor of bone size?
  • I like the lighter boned ones more than I do the warmbloods now so I'm going to be shifting my breeding program to the riding horses. I'll still keep a couple nice warmblood studs but I'm absolutely in love with the riding horses! If we get drafts, I'm going to need more barns to be able to have both!

    I went on a creation spree for the riding horses the other night and got some really pretty ones;

  • Yeah definitely grey. Maybe grey tobiano.

My greys up till now have been mostly black but I adore "rose/mulberry grey" arabs.

  • This mare is my favorite riding horse create so far :) I'm gonna need a nice riding horse appy stud to breed her to!

  • I realize that the bone size is not a breed, but a trait like height, but you can always select for the bone size you want to keep intact in a line also. I think I will still keep them separate from my warmbloods. Just for something fun to do.

  • Introducing Honest Hearts, the foundation sire for my new tobiano riding pony line. He tests AGA my best rank special stallion and I'm really quite in love with him!

  • Oh I love him Cheers!
  • Can I just say, if a draft size comes out, I can kiss my money goodbye and probably my head too since I will be so happy that it just might spin off. Tehe ;)
  • I will totally me the same, Royal. Definitely keen on the drafts!!!!
  • I got this guy from my HH today. I then went on a crazy riding horse create spree and got some beautiful babies from him.

  • I think the darker riding horses look cool. But at 1st glance I thought looked thin and old. Really like the paint stud above. And would love love love drafts. Lol
  • I'm also preferring darker light horses Hidden. I'm really excited about my new boy, as I think he's a good combo of colors for the new art!
  • Yeah, I thought they looked a little thin too, but then I looked harder and it's just some extra definition. :) Drafts will be fun, but they'll be hard on barnspace and hbs, and I don't know how she'll get horses taller than 17.3 hands without changing how they sit in the photo frame. Maybe she'll just lower where they stand in the frame. :P
  • :) cheers I love your boy too. And I agree on the Xtra definition
