Ok i have looked through and read about showing , my question is how do you pick the right shows?
I know you get right levels as other horses your showing against. But I'm wondering do you need to tack your horse say if it's a senior or junior riding class or a playday? Or untack if it's exhibition? Also on the tattoos which is better clear star or red star or gold star, I'm assuming gold . But the ranks are confusing.. Thanks in advance. -
One part I had answered already, tack and grooming are irrelevant. Your grand prix horse can show naked and scruffy and it won't impact the scoring.
Some tattoos are the breeder's/owner's own marks, some indicate the horse came from a particular 'herd helper'. The ranks go from 1>special in order of rarity, as far as I've learned so far. -
Hi!
As far as showing, picking the shows just comes down to luck of the draw. I ten to pick shows that are already mostly full so that they will run in the next 15 minutes. So for example: I have a 3W horse and go to enter him into a show. The options are limited to three classes, one with 8 entries, one with 4, and another with 0. I will always pick the one with the most entries since there are only 9 slots in the show and it will run quicker. Tack is just for a pretty picture and personal preference on aesthetics. The show names also have no meaning and are completely random.
I think you're talking about the tattoos for ranked herd helpers? Typically the clear/white stars are your Rank 1 horses, these are your most "common" or easily attainable genetics in the game. For example, my daily herd helper is a rank 1 Homozygous recessive gray. This means that the horse can be absolutely anything and everything except for gray, so it's just barely above a completely random create. Where as I was able to use a Rank 3 yellow star Top Notch Producer, this means that the horse's breeding ability is at 100%, an otherwise hidden number. This takes quite a bit of guess work out of who is going to be a good foundation broodmare or sire so is a bit more hard to obtain.
I apologize for rambling but hope I'm able to shed a bit of light for you?

Both answers help tremendously. I did read through everything I could find and still did not get it. So thank you for clear explanations :)

Phenergan, that was a great explanation!
SmokinBlack, here is a link to some other links where people have asked questions about similar things. http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/45704/links-list-updated-1-9-18#Item_9

Very informative, thank you so much for the link,
So from what I'm reading you can take a herd helper horse and breed up from there, which is what I have been doing. So far I've been able to move up to red and blue papered mares and A and B stallions, using perfect foundations and top notch producers, and getting color, also trying to keep good bone and testing score, it's slow going but it is going. Thank you for those links :)Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms -
This game tends to be an exercise in patience. However, as your stable gets larger, you may eventually find that there's not enough time in a week to get everything done. That was my experience. When it got to the point that it was taking me several hours to decide which horses to show each week, I jumped to what is now a Premium Upgrade so the game would take care of it for me.
Back in those days, we didn't have the showing bonus, and entering classes, especially the higher level ones, could be very expensive. Only horses that placed in the top half of a class earned more money than the entry fee, so knowing that a horse was likely to place in the top half of a class was quite important. Thanks to Ammit, we now have the showing bonus, entry fees are considerably smaller, and only the horse that places last in a show adds no points to its collection.De gustibus non disputandum. Yes I am finding this out as I go along and it does take alot of time, but I am glad for the distraction as my fiance just passed away and takes my mind away from that, then my real horses keep me busy as well. Takes some weeding out I guess to find your top show horses and the expenses lol. What gets me is every time I breed a good foal with color it gets spayed or gelded lol ok I've gotten 4 that have not, but I'll go from those 4 hopefully take them up a notch, I really thank all of you for the much need explanations :)

I mentioned, in a conversation somewhere, that we should all probably look at getting spays and gelds more along the lines of 'Yay, more show horses!'.
Thank heavens real life doesn't have as many intact stallions as some people in this game do! :P I expect there to be ONE colt to replace each stallion....from the stallions entire breeding career, same with mares. Beyond that I look at them as show pony factories! :D -
My deepest sympathy on the death of your fiance. That sounds like a really rough ride. Sending thoughts and prayers your way.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
