I'm trying to come up with a breed name, but I'm drawing a plank. How did you all come up with your breed names? I'd love suggestions!Thanked by 1Summervine

I go with song names. Every single horse I have named is from a song. Most of which are songs I know.
It's surprising how many songs make really good names lolThanked by 1Amgr1992 -
I turned a word with no adjective form into one. :)
(Genever is a gin-like spirit from Belgium.)

Thank you guys!

I don't want to end up using something that breaks the rules, which would be my lick!

Made up words or altering an uncommon word works usually. Some people use a mashup of two words.
My breed name is Argentian. Argent means “silver” then I just added ian to the end to make it sound more like a breed name.
Looking up a word in another language and then altering the word slightly works good too. So like say you wanted to do something related to Red. Red in French is rouge. So you could do Rougen, Rougell, Rougian, Rougetian, something like that.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.

PM me for any enquiries.Thanked by 1Amgr1992 -
I used three Latin words and mashed them together. Domine Dirige Nos means Lord direct (guide) us. Mash them together and you get Dominedirigenos Draft horses. Salvistar has some really great ideas for names.Thanked by 1Amgr1992

Intentional barely-misspellings of complicated words is a good way to go. For my HJ1 account, my breed name is Helianthys (an intentional misspelling of helianthus, the scientific name for sunflowers). My barn is called Sunseed Stables, so they kind of jive.
Try other languages, especially uncommon ones. Icelandic has some fun, off-the-wall words - and then you can play around with combinations and spellings for the words you like. For example, "sunflower" translates to "sólblómaolía" in Icelandic, which could become the breed name "Solblomaolian." Or on this account, "starflower" translates to "stjörnuflóa" which is kind of a cool word. A few tweaks in spelling could be a cool breed name too when I finally manage to upgrade this account.ID #42847Thanked by 1Amgr1992 -
I selected my breed name in this game by going to Google translate or another translation app and looking up sandy creek in a ton of languages, looking for something that was fairly pronounceable. I selected the German bach sandigan, making the two words one, so I breed Bachsandigan horses in this game.
I kept the same Sandy Creek name for my HaJ2 account, then I went looking for translation again. This time the Norwegian equivalent struck my fancy, so my breed there is Sandbuktian horses.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I used an adjective. Callipygian. Many of you already know what it means, but if you don't, you MUST google it!
You can also Google 'adjectives that start with (insert a letter)' and get LISTS of great ideas!Thanked by 1Amgr1992 -
But you have to look for unusual adjectives in the results, not common ones.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Cheval is French for horse, so I just altered it slightly to get my breed name. :). I like using French names. They sound fancy. LolThanked by 1Amgr1992

I was thinking of using beautnoir (beauté noire=Black beauty) but im not sure if that would be fine or if i should figure something else out. So far that's all i came up with lol

I also used Google Translate to put some of my favorite words related to my other hobbies into other languages.
I ended up with the Slovenian word for weaving (tkanje) and put an N on the end to make it sound more like a breed name. -
Mine (Tessellatus) is latin for mosaic. I'm an artist in real life, and I've always loved that flashy horses like pintos are often called "painted" and appaloosas sometimes called "rainbow", so I started trying out various painterly terms, translating them into Latin because it's a language I've just always liked and is often associated with mythology (roman, anyway), another favorite thing of mine. I don't remember the *specific* word that led to mosaic and tessellate, but when I found the word I knew it was the one for me :)~ Drafts 4 Lyfe~Thanked by 1Amgr1992

Amgr1992: I think Beutnoir would make a fine breed name.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I agree, I think Beautnoir would be lovely :)
Also, if you still want to look around - get a physical copy of a Roget's Thesaurus and look up words you like to see what kind of weird synonyms you can find - in fact, if you have a library nearby they might have some older copies that might have even more archaic words that nobody knows nowadays. :)

That's a great idea Summertime! I don't have access to a library right now, so I think Beautnoir for now! I loved looking through all the old books at the library :)
