Price voting?
-
I was window shopping and came across an option to vote on whether you think that horse is overpriced. I did a targeted search, and that horse's asking price was in line with comparable horses.
Is the voting just a feedback route for sellers? Are there any repercussions to price inflation? In my mind any "X" is worth what someone is willing to pay to obtain it, but that's a real-world mindset and I would like to understand this from an in-game perspective.More power! -
In-game, a horse is also worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and horses that appear to be priced too high will probably not be bought.
There is a consequence to the feature that allows players to vote down a horse whose price is too high. I think that way it works that if a horse has three votes that it's price is too high, it is automatically removed from the public sale list and cannot be place for sale again. I'm a little shaky about the precise details, though.
However, as a player with a fairly large stable that frequently is pushing up against the cash cap, I will occasionally purchase horses for "outrageous" prices when sellers have a specific goal for which they are trying to raise money. It is one way that I use to give financial help to players who have been around for less than 2 months. This practice of mine is totally outside the normal game economy, however.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Interesting. Pretty much what
I was thinking except that this:
removed from the public sale list and cannot be place for sale again
seems harsh if true.More power! -
I think they can be placed for sale again, but I can't remember the restrictions
-
I'm pretty sure they just have to be priced lower after the 3 votes. Once you've voted a price down you can't vote on that horses price again, even at the lower price. People were using the voting inappropriately. Now you can only vote down horses that are priced over 30k.
I've been guilty of voting down all the horses of one particular owner (even though I wasn't looking at the owner, just the price and the quality of the horse), and I was mortified when I found out, since it made it look like I was going after the person, not the prices!
I also have a tendency to click the wrong button when I mean to vote down a price, and end up buying the horse, which REALLY ticks me off! :PThanked by 1wendolyne -
Some people actively use this feature on a regular basis. Some almost never use it. If I think a price is super out of line for a horse I want to buy, it’s usually actually priced way too LOW! I have bought tons of rank specials at create price from new accounts who didn’t realize the horses were actually worth 20-100k. When possible (when the account was over 2 months old) I will send the rest of the value of the horse to that player. Usually they are players that have never been active on the forum.
-
Instead of using the price voting, wouldn't it be better to just message the owner to see if they will lower the price? This is what I do and have never used the button. I just figure if they don't want to lower the price then I won't buy it. There is very few horses that i will buy for outrageous prices.

Messaging a player their price is too high is pretty subjective too. I think that’s why 3 people have to vote before it makes a difference. Not that that means you shouldn’t just message an owner, which I’m sure is also done on a relatively regular basis, but it’s up to the seller to make a choice to lower the price if that’s the method. If it gets voted down, they have to lower the price or choose not to sell.
I don’t think it’s really an issue either way. Like you, if the price is too high for me to justify the purchase, I usually just move on and find something else! -
I think making offers is a great idea. Worst thing that can happen is a "no". ;o)BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

Price voting is a good way to manage the game 'economy' though. It is, sort of, the democratic way of letting people know they are pricing too high. It also keeps feelings from getting hurt because of the anonymity.
Duelinghawks, there have been problems in the past with people reacting badly.Thanked by 1Ammit -
Yeah, there’s a huge difference between messaging someone to say “I love your horse but can’t afford it at the price you have set. Would you take x lower price for it?” Or saying “your horse is priced too high, you should lower the price.”

removed from the public sale list and cannot be place for sale again at that price
key bit of text you nipped off there. ;)

Thanks for the correction, Ammit. I knew you'd probably be along to set me straight. It's not a feature I've ever felt called on to use, so I was sure there would be mistakes on the exact details.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

ouch. My fat fingers accidentally spayed a filly I was trying to move to a different barn. I feel your pain. -
I've never price voted down some ones horse, mostly because I'm rubbish at pricing horses and they are either too cheep or too expensive. And if the horse is too expensive like other people I just don't buy them.
Also I was a little annoyed when people price voted one of my horses, but that was because he was up in a buddy chat for some one that won him in an auction, though they didn't pick him up after messaging them etc, so I just took him down and sold him to someone that wanted him.21170 ~ Breeder of quality Liver Chestnut and Chocolate Palomino riding horses and ponies with unique twists. You can't vote down a horse for sale in a buddy chat.

I got a message a few weeks ago in my notification bit that he had been price voted, maybe it was a bug, I don't know, I just remember getting the notification.21170 ~ Breeder of quality Liver Chestnut and Chocolate Palomino riding horses and ponies with unique twists. I always ask the seller if the price they have marked down is the lowest price they will take. They usually give an answer and i go from there. If I feel the price is good for what i am after I pay.
