This sport started out as a wager on a distance of 3.97 miles /6.4 km. Its modern usage of the "term" differs depending on the country it takes place in. One particular race in 2014 had a prize fund of $1.38 million /£1 million.

This stallion won 16 consecutive races with over $1 million in earnings. He was afraid of his owner's dog, and died at 25 years old. This bay stallion has a mostly/largely European pedigree.
