Contest! What are your favorite hobbies?
-
Hi, want to get into doing bigger competitions with bigger prizes, a little concerned about how much time that would take, so I'm starting off with a little one. I have three sooty plus carrying 2 year old fillies from Lokis Jest's first foal crop, one for each of the top three entries I pick, and to enter I want to hear about some of your favorite hobbies. Tell me something cool, and maybe you could teach us all something new! New things are cool. Feel free to tell where you are from if you think that is important.

I try to learn a bit about lots of stuff, which probably means I don't do them all too well, but well enough to satisfy me. I love learning about science (biology) and have fun using it in my hobbies and conversations with others while I'm working on finishing my degree. (I enjoy just using science terms when talking to the children I work with at a preschool, and it entirely made my day when they got into a discussion with me about the difficulties of xylem eating coleoptera. Mwhaha)
Ever since my ornithology class I have been addicted with taking pictures of birds, as well as other things I find in the country side and various wildlife places I've been to. I enjoy insects, including the power I've recently discovered of how to pick up wasps without being stung. I have fun trying to breed for ginger haired, blue eyed dairy goats, and have a mother daughter pair right now. I also like gardening, ballroom dancing (East coast swing, lindyhop, blues, cha cha and waltz), padded sword fighting, foam armor creation, drawing, fantasy writing, and I'm working on getting myself more comfortable with using power tools and woodworking.
What do you guys like to do?
Thanked by 1Summervine -
I am a self taught genetics buff. I've studied horse, donkey, cattle, goat, sheep, pig, dog, cat, rat, mice, gerbil, rabbit, guinea pig, chicken, turkey, peafowl, guinea fowl, coturnix quail, button quail, zebra finch, lady gouldin finch and cockatil.
I also enjoy making jewelry and rosaries, and model horse tack. I like working with small things when I create this items. For example, my favorite tack items to make are in 1:24 scale. I've done Arabian costumes, halter, bridles and saddles. I've even made a 1:24 scale pack harness.#28036 -
I love horse riding because I love horses and being on top of a horse with the wind in my hair, My favourite riding disciples are Western, Dressage, Cross country and Jumping.
I also love reading mainly horse books but I also like fantasy books.
My other hobbie is running I don't mind athletics but cross country is amazing. I have made it to state for runniing a few times :) -
I guess for me it is trying to gain my confidence to ride again. I enjoy reading when I have time and this game. I love doing research on vet care. I wanted to go to school to be a vet. I also enjoy writing kids books for fun. My biggest hobby though is just training horses and spending time with my family.

I like to ride every chance I get and love teaching my two year old to ride and help take care of our horses. I also draw and paint, mainly horses lol. And to read and crochet. It's fun and relaxing and in the end I have something very usable that is also pretty.

My favorite hobbies are painting and crochet. I'm really proud of them, too, because art and craft have a long heritage and history in my family.
My father was probably the first person to put a pen in my hand, and I haven't really stopped drawing and painting since. My favorite things to paint are animals, aliens, and monsters and my favorite medium is gouache (opaque watercolor)! I'm not really in touch with my father any more, but I share my love for making art with my mom, too!
My grandfather (my mother's dad) is actually the one who taught me to crochet when I was 6. I did it off and on over my life, but recently really committed to it and have seen a huge jump in the quality of my work. So much so that I'm thinking about entering some in the county fair this year or next! I crocheted christmas gifts this year, even - though I'm still working on a very intricate lace shawl for my mother. It's taking longer than I thought it would! :)~ Drafts 4 Lyfe~ -
My main hobby is my miniature horse program, it takes a lot of time and devotion constantly trying to improve. I also show them which is super fun, halter, jumping in hand, obstacle, liberty, and driving.
Next is art, I sadly haven't taken a lot of time for my other hobbies lately but I sketch, mostly horses. I also am wanting to get into painting after going to a painting and wine class lol.
I also collect breyer models, I have been collecting them since I was little but recently got back into it and have been adding to my herd more than I should admit :D once a year there is a model show that I go to with a lifelong friend who is also the one that got me back into it!
And last but not least, I sew. I can make pretty much anything but I focus on making miniature foal blankets for both my use and to sell extras for a little extra income. -
I enjoy handcrafts lol I knit, crochet, needlepoint, embroider, cross stitch. Next on my list is to learn how to weave and eventually learn the whole process of making yarn from shearing to spinning the wool into yarn.
I also quilt and for the last several years have been getting into more of the long arm quilting and take in other quilters quilts to finish quilting the layers together on the frame.
I have a 8 year old paint gelding that I’ve done all the training on. I wish we could show more than just local club shows but my plans always seem to get foiled. -
Is food preservation a hobby :-? I love canning, drying, freezing, and brewing. I spend a lot of time this time of the year garden planning. When summer rolls around I will have buckets of food in my kitchen, waiting to be "put up".
My kids competitively shoot, and I was talked into trying it one weekend and loved it. We watched a single action shooting event, and I can see us getting really really into it. You get to dress up like old time cowboys and shoot targets. It is a fun hobby, just an expensive one. Add in sewing and oil painting, and now digital art. -
I've been an equestrian for 15 years, taking riding lessons and competing in eventing, and about 10 years ago I began combined driving. And driving has absolutely taken over my life!
Horses were always the focus but I've found a new passion. In combined driving you compete in a 3 phase competition, like eventing but with a carriage, and it consists of dressage, marathon, and cones. Dressage is the same as riding but you get to have fun with your turnout. Women and men wear traditional hats and outfits, normally involving a jacket and slacks or a skirt - it sounds boring but you get to have fun with colors and some modern touches! Marathon is the XC phase, you go trotting through the countryside and along the way there are obstacles that you have to go through in a course. Cones is like show jumping - it's a course of pairs of cones and if you hit a cone a ball falls and gives you a time penalty like a rail on a jump.
I'm in college for equine business and I've been lucky enough to attend a school that offers carriage driving as a class and I work at a barn where I get to drive so plenty of horse and drive time for me :) I definitely recommend driving to anyone, especially people looking for another career for their horse! -
I don't have many hobbies, but the ones I have take over my life. My main hobby is roadracing. Surprising, I know, it's not horse related. For everyone who does not know what that is, probably everyone, it is not really a well-known sport, it is motorcycle racing on a closed circuit. I currently have three different race bikes and plan to race three different series all over the east coast this upcoming season. This will be my fourth season racing, but I have been riding since I was seven.
I have been riding horses for twelve years and have competed in hunter/jumper events in the past. Now I just ride for fun so I can focus mainly on the bikes, but I still enjoy having weekly lessons and exercising horses for my trainer.
I also enjoy making edits on YouTube. It is something different from my normal physical activities and allows me to branch out creatively. I enjoy making both equestrian and fandom related edits. It also gives me a well needed break from school, which I am in my senior year of.
