How Often do you Sort out weak performance horses?
-
Just wondering how often you sort through your show horses? I am probably just being impatient but in the first crop of Altered foals/foundation adults that I got some won points in the first week of showing and some didn't. should I give them a couple of weeks worth of shows to see if they improve or just sell them back to the game now? I am not strapped for space, just for game money, lol.
thanks -
Foals don't train, so don't get rid of them on that account. They will age up and start training when they are 2.

I will check every couple of months. Everyone gets a "by" until they are 6 years old. At that point, if they are costing me a good bit of money, I will cut them loose. This only applies to my show horses, breeding stock is kept regardless.

I never cull horses until they level off. If I need space I only thin the lower portion of the point earners from each of my oldest age groups. If I have space and they have any points I let them stick around because as long as they have points they are earning me a little money whether or not they are showing

I almost never cull my show horses. I have way too many to keep a close eye on, for one thing. I also hold that unless a horse with a low PT and very few points (and those are more likely to be intact) levels off in a very bad spot, they will still be contributing enough to keep.
About the only time I check is when a horse shows up on the damages list with a large penalty. Then I compare their total points with their total damages and cull any where the latter is greater than the former. This doesn't weed out many, of course, but it does catch a few. Most of the time, however, the point total leaves plenty of slack for the damages total.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I only cull show horses if they are leveled off and consistently placing last or nearly so. If they aren't going to earn points, they are just taking up space that point earners could use.#28036

I never cull show horses - I figure chances are by the time they level off, even if they level off in a bad place they at least have a few points on them which means they're earning me money.

I also consider that each occurrence of damages is a one time assessment, points/showing bonus value is a repeated daily addition to my bank account.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

The only time I cull is when they are ready to turn 18 and I get rid of those with low points then so I have more space in the barns for show foals and they may age out naturally and you get nothing for them. (A bit evil when you think about it
