You've run out of money! Now what do you do!? Things To Do When You're Broke!
  • There is SO much to do on Hunt and Jump that it can be overwhelming, so I wanted to start a list of "Things To Do When You're Broke". Contribute an idea if you have one, but if you have questions about how to get to a page, or how to do something, please start another thread.

This also assumes you have read the FAQ's and the helpful links you were shown when you first posted on the forum! If not, or if you didn't get the links list, then send me a private message and I will send it to you!

    Here are some starter ideas:

Learn how to use the Search page! It is amazing how easy it is to find JUST the right horse once you figure it out! Plus it can make things SO much faster! I’ve found horses for sale that might have otherwise been lost (to me) in the hundreds of pages of the public sales boards! I use it to pull up lists of all my stallions during breeding season, and lists of mares who are still open, and it goes on and on! Start simple. Find all the stallions in the game. Then find all the stallions under 4 years old! Then find all the stallions under 4 years old who are under 14.2 hands tall!

Visit other barns! Most of the stables are open for you to look through. Find a person on the forum, and click their name link, then click their ID number to go to their barn. Poke around! See how they organize their barns, see how many pastures they have. If you don’t understand something you can send them a private message and ask them why they did it the way they did! See if you can figure out what colors they breed for!

Check out the Tack Tab! Even for free accounts there are a ton of different options to try! Get a different background! Put a bridle on your best horse! Give them a nice clip job! Spend some time learning how it all works!

  • I make plans to breed my best stallions to my best mares. I also add Tack to my horses that are missing Tack so that all my horse look beautiful.
  • Start brushing up on horse color genetics. Click on the link to the Genetics Guide to learn what the color test results mean. You may still have questions, so please just ask. We'll be glad to help you out.

Really study the Rules and Terms of Service. Ammit's pretty forgiving when new players break the rules, but it can be embarrassing when it happens, so it's better to know them in advance. Once again, if you have a question, please ask.

  • Name and sort horses that you havnt gotten around to doing..
Go through and check out your breeders afpts and decide if you need to re evaluate them as a breeder
Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.

    Horses generally always available.
    PM me for any enquiries.
  • I sometimes just go through and look at horses I don't use all the time, like show ponies. It's always fun to just see the pretty artwork and reminisce about old friends. Plus it gives me ideas about other things I want to breed for or I find horses I can sell.
  • Start thinking about which mares go to which stallion. Also find out if you want to post studs for the public to breed to.
  • I personally enjoy analyzing the numbers of everything on here to project what may came and eventually descending into madness as the numbers begin to take over my brain. Good times.

But seriously though, looking over your stock and planning out your goals for the next season be it breeding, tattoo purchases, testing, what have you, has helped me keep everything in control tremendously. I actually use that little note area on the stable overview page to list out what I hope to accomplish during the season. Also makes the time between bonuses fly by.
Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.
Striving to become a quality Draft breeder.
  • Remember, this is mostly for players with new, free accounts! So no tattoos available, or notes on the stable page. And likely only a few horses, so not a lot of breedings to plan! Descending into madness remains on the table, however! :P

  • pick an older member and and ask them about their favorite horse and the breeding behind
I don't think any of us would turn down the chance to talk about one of our favorite horses or their personal lines.

ask about how they pick a breed name everyone has a great story about their breed name

look up a color/color combination that you like and research it!
find someone who breeds a lot of that color and ask about it! you might pick up same cool tricks on how to breed your own line

hatch an evil plan for the best strategy on how to slowly hoard the greatest of the showponies and slowly over take all of the leader boards and with time the entire game! that's what every member should drive for!
I'm just kidding. this game has the most supportive community I've ever seen online

  • Take a break. Go and do the non-game thing you've been procrastinating for the past hour and come back later ;)
  • Well I may not be new or broke but now I know what I’m going to be doing for the next hour or so :)

  • This is a great list!

I really really second figuring out the Horse Search feature. It is super powerful! I was confused by the genetics tabs at first -- one way to practice is to look at the genetics of one of your horses and see if you can find other similar horses.

Also definitely talk to more experienced players! The forum is fantastic but I have learned even more in Buddy Chat. The Beginners Barn is a great place to start if you don't know where to go.

  • If someone could maybe write up a how-to on the search function I would be really grateful! I've stayed away from searching genetics because I just can't figure it out :(
