Trivia 31 by Me
-
I just want to thank @FlyingStunner again for this contest. The show horses I won have pushed my bonus to just shy of 2k, and the money helped me get an extra barn to organize my show ponies. Thank you so much for doing this!Fine appaloosa riding horses, Axiom blue and green, ice 1, ice 2, and ice 8

Haflinger?
-
Sassycass is correct with Morab.
Clue #10 is another breed.
High stepping elegance that was breed in Great Britain for carriage driving. In 1542, King Henry VIII required some of his subjects to keep the stallions for breeding. The breed's brilliant gaits kept it from extinction, and is known for success in show jumping and dressage.
What is this flashy breed?
You're welcome Zef; giving can be just as much fun as receiving. :) -
Hackney?
-
That is correct EdgyEmu!
Clue #11 is horse medicine.
This can be used as a sedative, appetite stimulant, and improve a stallion's breeding behavior if he is shy.

-
Diazepam is right, and Skyelight answered first.
Clue #12 is from a movie.
This uncle and nephew go head to head in a race. The uncle is portrayed as towering over his nephew, but this is historically incorrect.
Who are these relatives, and how tall were they? -
The Movie is Seabiscuit (2003)
Seabiscuit vs War Admiral. War Admiral (By Man 'o War, out of Brushup) was half brother to Hard Tack (By Man 'o War, out of Tea Biscuit), who was Seabiscuit's Sire. Seabiscuit and War Admiral were both about 15.2 hands tall. Seabiscuit also outweighed War Admiral by about 80 lbs at the time of the race.
In the Movie, War Admiral is portrayed as almost 18 hands tall.
-
Yes indeed Squeakerblue! I didn't think that any one would get it.
Clue #13 is Horse Art/History.
He sits astride a powerful steed, balanced on his back feet. As a show of his strength, this man would often break horse shoes with his bare hands! This monument stands in Dresden, Germany.
Who is this man? -
It took a minute to figure out.
I know #13 too, but since I won the last one, I won't answer -
August the strong
-
EquinoxLake is correct.
Clue #14 is Horse Art/History again.
This monument has a man offering a bucket of water/food to a horse. It says that a nation is not measured by size, but by it's compassion.
After what war was this monument built, and where does it stand? -
The second Boer War and it stands in Port Elizabeth, South AfricaAlways looking for Hidden Gates horses, sooty+ livers, snowflakes, Freaky Fridays, or satins!
-
Second Boer War, and is located in Port Elizabeth,South Africa
-
Correct and correct, well done Conviviality.
Clue #14 is horse health.
The larynx fully opens at peak exercise provided the controlling muscles function properly. It is common that the left side become paralyzed, which results in reduced air flow.
What is this condition known as? Either name will suffice. -
laryngeal hemiplegia or known as "roaring."
-
Yes Lynn894, that is correct.
Clue #15 is a horse breed.
They are well muscled, and willing to work. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Arabian blood was added. They have been used for forestry and farm work.

Clue #16 is horse sports.
This sport originated in the 16th century, and is highly controversial. This event is usually held in May or November.
What sport do I mean? -

-
Horse racing?
-
Jousting
-
Fox hunting or Horse racing.
-
Fox hunting
-
steeplechase
-
Must be fox hunting. In the Uk it runs Nov until April/May although it is supposed to be banned. I will be quiet now as my emotions may get the better of me :)
-
That is correct Xceptional.
Chilli, I have never taken part in foxhunting, and I know it is (was) more commonplace in the UK than here in the US. I did not mean to get you riled up my friend.
Clue #17 is horse sports.
This sport is not professional, but is international to a degree; usually a fair/local favorite. It occurs in pairs or trios, never individually. The horses are always jittery, and in their anticipation, they will take off before they are ready; the men powerless to stop them. The horses usually go for only a short distance to reach their goal, and the next stage.
What is this dynamic "sport" called? -
Calf roping or steer wrestling
-
Can I guess again even though I've already won? Lol
