I started a chat for sable breeders, but I have yet to see anyone that is all about it.. anyone like to breed sables and want to converse? :)

@Stefliz - Sable doesn't have its own breeders club as it is a variation of the Champagne gene. Champagne however, has it's own club.

@KAMRanch - I'd be interested in joining. I do love sables.

Pretty color they remind me of dun colored horses, Is there a sable gene in horses? Sable to me is like a siamese cat coloring.
edit: I just saw the posting above mine, so it is a champagne gene related color. I have a draft mare that is lighter, but she has the champagne gene with Appy coloring.

I just know to get a sable it requires at least one E, At or two At's, ChCh and CC.. I believe having sooty helps, but don't thing it is entirely necessary, I'm just starting to figure it out. I know a brown horse mixed bred with a champagne horse (without A, AA or A+) it is possible to get a sable baby. :)

I don’t specifically breed for sable, but I have some champagne in my bay based pastures to try to help it happen..

If you want to maximize your chances of Sable, I highly recommend you use a similar process to what I used when I was trying to maximize my chance of brown—get a stallion as close as possible to EE AtAt CC Ssty Ssty ChCh and Breed him to Black mares. Black mares cannot, by definition, carry Agouti alleles that will interfere with brown or Sable coloration, so by breeding a Sable stallion to black mares, you will maximize your chances.

This is my little group, I am actively trying to set up a bigger breeding program for Sables! I did a huge cull today to make room for more of them :D I produced the first stud, and after he popped up I decided I needed more. I purchased the second stud and the mare and am smitten with them too :)

Those are my two foundation boys. I should have nothing but sable champagnes for awhile & hoping to gmt more foundies until I have almost nothing but sables in my barn. :)

@pestilenttempest Neither of your boys will produce sable. Sable is Brown (At) and champagne. They are both hom for Bay (A), which is dominant to Brown, so none of their foals can be sable.
