How do you name barns?
-
I was thinking of naming the barns after my main studs. That way I can better plan breeding? Also for keeping my mares bred to the same stud. Do any of you do that?
-
I name pastures sort of that way (by line and generation, so F KP, gen 2 KP, etc). Most of my barns are Show Ponies barns, but I have one for each generation to grow out foals and store stallions permanently (except when they are briefly on pasture duty) named for that gen, and one for show pony breeders to grow out and a couple for sales/auctions so I can dump auction horses in one and horses I’m keeping aside for private sale in another.

I have show pony barns, based on good and iffy show horses, a sale/auction/quarantine barn that I use for newly bought horses (until I can tack pack them out and decide names and where they're gonna go permanently) and for horses I'm considering selling and to get all my auction horses out of the way, and I have rank special barns, altered foals and altered 2&3 year olds barns, and I had a slightly useless 15 stall barn that I put all my favorites in and named as such. :)
I love organizing and think they're so many ways to do it, I'm enjoying seeing how everyone differs. :DBreeder of Quality Warmbloods and Show Horses

I don't keep my barns super organized. I have mare barns A, B, C etc. Show barns 1, 2, 3, etc. And stallion barns A, B, C, etc. That way I can move horses around without worrying that I am running out of space in one specific barn. Although it can be hard to find a specific horse without going to the horse search.Thanked by 1KAMRanch

:D
I name my barns in this game for (mostly very small) communities in my local area, usually. Covington Barn, Luthers Mills Barn, Waverly Barn etc. Brussels Barn, however is named after the capital of Belgium and holds some of my draft horses. They are all multi-purpose barns--I throw horses into any barn with the room to hold them.
In HaJ1, I started naming my barns after times of day. High Noon Barn, Dimity (old name for twilight) Barn, Rising Sun Barn, Teatime Barn, etc. Once again, I don't sort the horses that go into them, as a rule. I'm pretty much running out of time-related names, so I've had to branch out into other things there.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I have Show a-z, Auction, Mares 2g, 3g, etc, 1yo intact (this one is a pass through, they're only there til they age up), 2 YO mares, 3 YO mares, and Stallions. You're welcome to take a look, I'm ID 1998. I think they are pretty self explanatory!Thanked by 1KAMRanch

I use a prefix JL - Ladies, JS - studs, Z - show horse (followed by a generational letter a, b, c etc) when naming my horses so my barns follow the same naming system and each generation is all together in 1 barn. I don’t usually have enough mares to subdivide each generation by stud as my barns are all running way below capacity (except the show barns lol I stuff those suckers full before I buy another one.)Thanked by 1KAMRanch

I have:
Primary Barn
babiesthatneedsorting
Boys Club
EMPTY210
Foundations 1 and 2
LINED MARES
SHOWSTOCK1 to 9
Pretty self explainatory :) I never use the barns when I breed though, I always use the search. I search my mares by generation (suffix) and wich line I want (prefix). I.e., I will search for mares over 3 years old, and put "M3 3G" in the name section if I want to search for satin 3G mares.
I keep a notepad (on my laptop) where all my boys are sorted by generation first and line second, and then I write down wich ones I want bred to each stud so that I can do all the breeding from the studs page in one go. -
I have a hand serve mares barn (generally mares i pull eggs from), 2x public broodmares barns (they go for public breed or recipient mares), inhouse stallions (studs i use), public stallions (no longer in my breeding program so uo for the public), selling (auction horses), and an underage filly barn (from foals to 3yo fillies that will go into pasture when they are of age).. then show barm 1, 2, 3 etcBreeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.
Horses generally always available.
PM me for any enquiries.Thanked by 1KAMRanch -
My barns aren't overly organised, because I don't really do breeding out of them so doesn't matter too much. I do have show barn1, showbarn2 etc, stallions, and a couple of mare barns. Then some foal or extra barns for the foals out of the pastures. My pastures are much better organised and named for generation and era. I also have the generation and sometimes era in their name to make them easy to organise, again so it doesn't matter what barn they are in. It personally wouldn't be useful for me to use stallions names as I use different stallions all the time!

I just name my barns Brood Mares A, B, C, etc. Stallions A, B, C, etc. and Show Horses A, B, C, etc.
I name them all according to line and generation so that it's easy to pull up in the pasture box. I used to try to organize my mares into barns according to line, etc. but found it too hard to keep that organization because my barns are so full sometimes and because I move mares in and out of pasture (I don't leave them in pasture) -
I just use RKO Haven and than add barn, stable, ranch and so on. :)
