lol, I started looking at their pedigree to make sure both parents were at least papered the same as I kept buying horses that passed BA but weren't SBA.Thanked by 1KAMRanch
-
Lol if I come across a particularly gorgeous one, I'll stick with BA. Even when breeding them. I'm bad, I know :DThanked by 1KAMRanch

Not every one has a Premium account, so they can't SBA their horses. I fall in this group of people who can't.
-
i never run horses i buy through SBA. Same with hand bred/tube bred foals. I only run my pasture foals and creates through SBA. I just turn testing off on the rest as long as they've been through everything else :)Thanked by 1KAMRanch
-
I only use SBA when trying to thin out my stallions lol. I don't do SBA on my favorites that pass BA and not on ones I spend a lot onThanked by 1KAMRanch

I usually don’t SBA bought horses either, or anything I Lab Breed. If I wanted them enough to buy them, I bought them for a reason. They have to paper where I want them to for that generation, and if they’re colts they have to compare where I want them to with my benchmarks. But I really only SBA my pasture foals.Thanked by 1KAMRanch

I sba advice absolutely everything.. i dont generally buy outside horses but i sba those also.. i think i have only not done 1 or 2 that ive bought.. even my test tube babies i sba.. keeps my numbers down :)Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.

Horses generally always available.
PM me for any enquiries. -
I also SBA everything. But I have so many that I can afford to only keep the creme de la creme :P

If I buy horses I lose about half through SBA, but that's ok as I've bought some rippers that have done really well in my herds as well!Thanked by 1KAMRanch

I SBA my pastures until this season. I got into comparing this year instead. But, I have always pretty much SBA'ed everything. I do let a few only go through BA, until I can compare them to my benchmarks. Unless it is one I bought, or received as a gift then BA is good enough for me.
It is because of the fact some members don't have the upgrade to SBA. As for buying horses. Like someone else said, the ones I buy, I bought them for a reason.
Plus, I show everything for the 'Show Bonus' anyway. I have some intact horses, I have never bred. Too many horses to go through each one. But the bonus is nice for showing!Thanked by 1KAMRanch -
I feel like, if I see a horse over 10-15k and I check to see if the owner has an upgrade I just assume they have used SBA. Recently I've bought horses, usually because I hope to breed them, and they end up being altered when I put them through SBA.
I'm pretty strict in my breeding, and while I know they're are plenty of people who aren't upgraded, and I don't mind more show horses in the least, I'm trying to keep my barns smaller. So I still feel like putting a higher price on them would be less of an ouch for people if the horse had been through SBA, like I said I usually check to see if the owner has an upgrade, I'll still risk it if I like the horse, but man I keep getting 2,3,4gs that are beauties and altered by me after I purchase them. It's always a sad day for me. Sad panda!
Thank you all for you responses! I'll keep buying, because I'm addicted.. I LOVE THE PIXEL PONIES! :-)) =))Breeder of Quality Warmbloods and Show Horses

What is the benefit of putting the horse you bought through SBA? That just tells you where the horse fit in to the other persons breeding program, it tells you nothing, or at least very little, about where the horse will fit into your breeding program. An Star papered horse who isn't going to pass SBA may still be better than any of the Star papered horses in your herd. Or it may be a perfect fit for your breeding program.
BA and SBA are great for your own herd, to keep you improving, but when you buy a horse it is kind of like it gets a fresh slate. It doesn't really matter if the horse wasn't an improvement for someone else's herd, if it is going to be breeding in your herd.Thanked by 1KAMRanch -
I thought I read somewhere once that Ammit said something about how SBA really cuts out the horses that won't be exceptional at either breeding, showing or something slightly along the lines of quality... but I'm always learning new ways of doing stuff! :D I really enjoy a little extra testing and siphoning out a little extra goodness so I don't have so many horses.. lol I'm trying not to over do it, but I think I'm gonna be a little more lax in my SBA if I really love a particular foal..
I tend to be overly particular with everything, as is my niece, so we are working on it. :PBreeder of Quality Warmbloods and Show Horses

Not something I would have ever said. That isn't how SBA works at all.

Ah, I don't know what conversation I had thought of then.. I think maybe it was just the FAQ on testing..
This mainly:
Strict Breeding Advice: FREE Really want to know who’s the be all end all in your breeding program? Only want to breed the absolute best of your crop? Run your horses through Strict Breeding Advice. Only horses that are as good as or better than their sire/dam will make it through without being altered.
And this:
Testing improves your herd. All in-game testing is designed to help you build the strongest herd possible. Each test goes about it in a different way, giving you different information, but all tests ultimately have the same purpose.
Obviously my interpretation was wrong as far as what is the best, but I figured I wanted to do my personal best with the herd I'm trying to make, so I would adhere to all the testing. :)

BA/SBA testing is a great way to keep your herd moving forward in an established program, but it really only compares the foal to it's sire and dam. Most people want to keep improving each generation. But it doesn't say anything about the quality of the foal in general, just in relation to it's sire and dam. If you buy a horse and think it will be a solid match to your mares and improve your herd it doesn't really matter how it compares to it's sire and dam. You can still use the horse to improve your herd, that makes it worth breeding in my book.
Say, for example, that I breed one of my studs to a foundation mare, and get a low Star foal out of it. That foal isn't going to pass SBA, or even BA, but it could still excel as a stud in a breeding program that is just breaking into the Star/gold level. Or give a nice boost to a program that is stagnating at the high A level.Thanked by 1KAMRanch
