Splash question
-
Probably a dumb question, but what is the difference between splash markings like the first two and the last one? I can't seem to find a genetic difference, so I was wondering if there is one that I'm not catching. The first two are some of my favorite markings in the game, while the third one is one of my least favorite. Is it possible to breed specifically for each marking or is it random? Does it have anything to do with white factor or w20?

Yes it has everything to do with White Factor. It may have to do with W20–I would have to look to be sure and for some reason my internet is being slow today.
I would suggest that you use the horse search and the Pattern tab to search for horses with one and two copies of SplashS (Splash 1) and each of the different White Factor options individually. I would then add in W20 and see how that changes things. Looks like you like splash with a relatively low White Factor to get just the stockings and a white face.Thanked by 1KAMRanch -
Thanks Cheers. I did some searching and I could be wrong, but I believe it has to do with both white factor and w20. Hom w20s are much more likely to look like the third example, while het w20s often look like all three examples. White factor varies but usually is low on ones with smaller markings and large on ones with larger markings.ID: 16853Thanked by 1Ammit

W20 can increase the white on the horse, however if you do want to stay away from this pattern I'd suggest trying to keep to low WF as well. I LOVE extensive splash and so tend to breed large WF's into this. Your boy's WF is a large, and this mare below has the same WF with very similar markings:

These two are a good example of w20 increasing the white on a horse. The first one, a liver, is het splash and het w20 with a WF of large. The last one is het splash, hom w20 with a WF of extensive. They've both got almost identical markings, but their white is more than the usual WF:Large!
