Breeding advice!
-
I'm having some trouble understanding the lethal chart so im going to ask your guys advice! I have 3 crosses picked out (I know one I can't do for a bit). I just don't want to lose my first straw babies! Feel free to look at my mares and offer other suggestions! Studs courtesy of @ConvivialityFarm

So for the kit lethality chart, what you do is you mark down which kit genes the parents have. Then you mark down all possible combinations that the foal can have (in the first two horses case, it is this: kitkit, kitTokit, kitMkit, KitTokitM). Since kit genes can be lethal with each other, you only need to check the combinations with have two genes present, in this case the last one. Kitm and kitto are safe with each other.
If two genes are NOT safe with each other, then the amount of white a horse has on it (the WF) will dictate whether or not the horse will survive. WF is mostly inheritable, and is increased by splash and frame.
If a combination is a low risk cross, then only something like an extensive white factor would result in a dead foal. The larger the risk, the lower the wf needs to be for a dead foal to occur.
Here is the chart for reference:

Your second stallion does not have any kit genes, so go nuts with him.
Roan and tobiano are one of the safest kits mutations to have in the same. They're followed by w20 and sb2. Roan and w20, and tobiano and w20 are all safe.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Thank you @ObsidianKitsune! I wasn't sure if it was only the KIT and white factors or if there was any other combinations I needed to worry about
-
There's the kit genes and then there's this:
Hom Splash 2 = lethal
Hom Splash 3 = lethal
Hom Frame = lethal
Het Splash 2 + Het Splash 3 = lethal
I think the first boy is the only horse here who has splash 3, so you don't need to worry about this yet. Apart from that, breed any colour that you want to!Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Please also remember that when you are breeding riskier Kit combinations, having other “white adding” genes like Splash (any kind of Splash) and Frame increase “white load” of the horse and therefore the lethality of the cross.
Ammit basically explains it like this: every white marking your horse has is a “broken” piece of the genetic code. A little white is a little break. A lot of white is a lot of breaks. If you have an all white horse, it has lots and lots of breaks and eventually you get so many breaks it’s not compatible with life. So if you want to play with, say, W1 or W10, which put a lot of white on a horse, you’re better off doing it without other “white adding” genes in the combination.
I don’t know if Ice or the other Fantasy genes contribute to white load, but I think they are all safe with everything.Thanked by 1Amgr1992 -
Thank you @Cheers, I had read what Ammit wrote, I was just having a hard time understanding the chart, which @ObsidianKitsune kindly broke down for me making it a little easier, im not a big all white, or almost all white girl myself, but I do like some so I just need to make sure I'm very careful! And thank you @ObsidianKitsune for the list of lethals!

Doesn't look like I can breed them now anyway! So I have time to change my mind. It's not giving me mare options for the straws so I'll wait till I can!
-
Mares have to be 4 years old to be bred from, and can only have 1 foal a season. The only mare of breeding age is Storms Revenge, but she has already been bred to this year.
Also if you go to a mares page and click "in house breeding", underneath the option for the live cover is an option to use one of your stored straws.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I noticed that after I said something. I'll get the hang of it, thanks everyone!
