Horse Pricing
-
Hiya, I literally have no clue on how to price my horses, I dont want to sell for too cheap or too expensive so was wondering if anyone had a guide to pricing?
-
Hello! Welcome! There is a section in the FAQ about pricing horses I think. In general, any average create is worth 2500 (the price to create a foundation). Higher generations can be priced higher, especially if they paper well (many folks like an even generation pedigree too; I don't mind much if the ability of the parents is even). Rare or popular genes on an intact horse can bring a higher price (DP, snowflake appaloosa, white 3 or 8, kitM, etc). A quick search for similar horses to what you want to sell can show you what the average asking price is. Rank Special horses tend to be worth the most, and can sell anywhere from 10k to 50k depending on the genes.
Hope this helps. I have less than a year playing so someone else might give a clearer answer!
Best wishes and have fun!Fine appaloosa riding horses, Axiom blue and green, ice 1, ice 2, and ice 8 -
One way to solve your dilemma is to create a forum auction for your horse. You can ask people to list their ID and what they will bid on it. This way, if it is something that people are looking for, the price will tell you how much they feel it's worth. If no one bids, then the auction is the best place to sell it.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Hi Cookie! Here's my list of helpful links for new players, it might help down the line, and it has a couple posts about pricing horses, as well.
Feel free to check out the Beginners Barn chat room. There’s usually someone around who can answer questions fairly quickly! Go to this page: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/buddy_chat.php. Find the link that says Confluence Farms |Beginners Barn, (it’s usually at the top!) click it and you’re there!

Often, a good way to find out a reasonable price for horses is to see what other players are selling similar horses for! If you search horses that are similar to yours (colour, paper level or PT, etc.) you can see what the lowest prices are and that'll give you some idea of what your horse might be worth. For instance, if there are 5 pages of horses similar to yours priced at around 2500, chances are yours is worth around 2500 too. If however the lowest priced horse similar to yours is higher than that, yours might be worth more too!

Also this game isn’t like others. It’s a long term game. You won’t get rich by selling horses unless you have rare genes (which often have restrictions against selling) or high quality horses. The way to get rich is keeping horses and showing them. My show horses make over 520k a week and I rarely sell or auction anything.

Thank you everyone! @Bandit1119 How do you win that much? :o

Lots of show horses lol. I have just over 1000 show horses. I keep and show everything so I have lots of horses with lots of points. My show bonus is just over 74k a day. It would be larger if I could actually remember that hj2 year is only 1month not 2 like hj1 lol
It’s hard at first and once a game year I did actively cull the bottom overall point earners from each age group starting with the oldest and working my way down to 9 or 10 year olds. I only culled anything that was leveled off as some horses don’t hit their stride in showing until they are older and tend to be the first to be sold by new players as they don’t seem to be profitable. But once my horses started earning enough to fund my breeding season with enough after to exchange for a couple IV’s I stopped culling and kept everything. Now by the time I fill my 1000 stall show barn with geldings and spayed mares my show horses have earned enough hb’s to exchange for IV’s to buy another 1000stall show barn. (I use the same tactics on hj1 and have about 5000 stalls and almost 4000 show horses and a daily show bonus of 165k+/day) -
If I were to start a new account now knowing how the game runs I would take advantage of Ammits new member barn deal and available to adopt program and get a barn and 2 show horses.
At first I wouldn’t worry about breeding my own horses or keeping many show horses. I would take the start up money and create (or buy 2,500hbs or less) a stallion and as many unbred mares 4+years as I could afford, setting aside 500hbs/mare. Put them all in the pasture, breed them, then dump all the mares and foals into the auction. After the auction runs take the money and create/buy as many mares as I can again setting aside 500hbs breed them and auction the mares and foals and continue the cycle. Once the stud maxes out his live cover breedings auction and replace him.
Auctions run 3x a week so by the end of the first month you could have a very tidy profit margin. Set aside IV’s to resist temptation to spend and buy a third barn to fill with any cheap high pointed horses or any cheap foals. Show them as often as possible. Continue breeding and auctioning horses and buying extra barns. Once your show horses are able to fund your breeding season on their own choose which traits you’d like to breed and start growing your own herd of breeding horses. I keep my ratio 1:3 or more (3 show horses for each breeding mare)Thanked by 1KAMRanch -
Just to add to what Bandit said; Pasture horses don't show. Their total points count towards your nightly bonus, though. Those points won't INCREASE, but the existing ones do count. That's the trade off; the mares won't increase their show points, but they WILL increase their breeding 'points' (bonus).

In relation to what Bandit said above - I ran the numbers (I sooo wish I had seen this post earlier! Thanks a ton for that idea Bandit!)
Starting Cash: 50,000
Starter Horses: 14 x 2500 = 35,000
Foal Creation: 13 x 500 = 6500
Total Create Costs: = 41,500
Auction Sales: 2500 x 26 (all mares &foals) = 65,000
Net Profit from 1 Auction = 23,000
3 Auctions/Week
Net Weekly Profit = 70,500
4 Weeks/Month
Monthly Profit = 282,000
