What is your New Year's tradition?
-
I love hearing about different/new things. So tell me about the New Years Day traditions common to your area or culture or family. Leave your user id# and I will draw for some goodies. :)
For me it would be cooking a big pot of collards, a big pot of black eyed peas, and a ham, and receiving a half dozen calls from my mother and various aunts checking to make sure I am cooking the collards, peas, and ham. My other tradition is making sure to watch the Tournament of Roses Parade. I love watching the equestrian groups. -
My personal tradition? Taking a lift to 11th floor of the block of flats and taking photos of fireworks exploding at midnight. The view is really nice...especially for someone who lives on the 2nd floor :))
Seriously, I usually spend New Year's Eve and New Year at home with my family, so nothing special here :P
Oh, is it a contest? :)) My ID number is 4579.understand the significance of signaturesThanked by 1RipshinCreekFarm -
I do something different every year. We used to always either a) go to a friend's house where there were lots of other friends, and play games and eat junk food until wee hours of the morning or b) stay at our own house and invite lots of friends, and play games and eat junk food until wee hours of the morning. It always involves fireworks and sparklers. And coffee.

Every year for as long as I can remember my family and some family friends get together and fondue ( cooking meat usually, in hot hot oil) all sorts of things then we all play games and just spend time with each other then I will get a million texts from my grandparents asking how the night is and making sure I’m ok along with every one else.

My family tradition would be to horse show! Our biggest show of the year is December 29-January 3rd. No crazy parties for us. Lol. Sometimes we go to Boston market.

My family enjoys sitting by our fire place watching the flames, we like to add the pinecones that have been treated to make pretty colors show up in the flames. I call all my mom, sisters and brothers to wish them a happy and healthy new year. I am also a new grandmother so, my year is starting off great. I love watching the rose parade, I love to see the horses when they go by in the parade. There so much more that I enjoy and it would take too long to write it all down. :D

We always go for a trail ride with good friends as long as the roads are decent. There have been a few years when it snowed hard the night before so we'd be covered in it because it kept falling off the trees, lol. :) #14609Thanked by 1RipshinCreekFarm

Recently we started using the Spain tradition of drinking wine with frozen green grapes. Love that.
Other than that, usually just staying up with people you want in your life in the new year!ID# 24891

For most of the last 10 years I’ve worked lol we (the community complex that I work at) have a family New Year’s Eve party with face painting, clowns, magic shows, a family that sings and dances, inflatables, skating and a count down at 9.
Normally we cover the one ice pad with a Fiberglass floor to hold the festivities on and there was a big adult New Year’s Eve party on in the Hall. They haven’t booked for the last 2 years so we left both rinks clear and had hockey on the second one.
We usually work till 3am then go back in for a few hours New Year’s Day to lift the floor up off the ice and clean the building but since we didn’t put the floor down and there was only the kids party we were only scheduled until 11. Also a cold snap came through this year so there wasn’t as many kids out and my 2 coworkers had most of the building clean before we left.
Sitting at home I realized I had no idea how to ring in the new year as the staff normally joins in the count downs at 9&12.Thanked by 1RipshinCreekFarm
