Training, Leveling off and HJ2
-
Let me caveat this post by saying I never really had the time to figure out, or dedicate myself to, the showing side of the house. I have nothing but respect for those who have, it is time consuming to keep track of dozens of showers. I only say this so you understand that my knowledge of the show scene is pretty poor.
Anyways, I noticed that our HJ2 horses train about as quickly as the HJ1 horses, 3-4 points a week. Unlike HJ1 our horses age up every month. Do our horses still level off between 9-12ish, depending on their PT here on HJ2? If so does that mean we have half the time to train our horses, so they won't reach the higher levels of the show game easily? Have the show levels been adjusted to take the increased aging into account?
I don't really have a horse in this race, since I let autoshower do all of my showing, and usually end up losing money because I don't manage my herds for showing, but I know some folks do enjoy the showing side of things. This just sprang to mind this morning and I thought I would bring it up. -
From what I have noticed, they do level off at the same rate. I have some older show horses (foundies) that have leveled off at a sweet spot and are still showing at 10 and 11 years old, but that is just luck really.
I hand enter most of my horses. Yeah, it's tedious, but helps me keep track of which ones are doing well and which ones need the boot.
I only started serious showing when I started here at HJ2. If it makes you feel any better, most of what I have learned has been by trial and error based on some really helpful tips from various players.Purple Sage Estates - 129 -
I'll probably confuse this a bit but I'll try to explain it.
They are gaining and leveling according to PT/age just like on HJ1, but because they age every month instead of every two months, they will have less training during their showing careers before they level off. On HJ1 they would get an extra 4 weeks, (give or take), during a year to gain training points. So yes, you would be correct that they will level off most likely at a lower level than on HJ1.
Make sense? :P -
I'm not really planning on getting into the showing side of the house. I just don't have the time. I barely have enough time to breed all my horses. I was just wondering if maybe the training rates should be adjusted to compensate for the reduction in training time available. Otherwise we are going to have a very hard time getting any horses into the national and world levels. Seeing as how our horses will have roughly half the "high score" the HJ1 horse would get in it's lifetime. Just a thought.

You actually bring up a good point DS. I hadn't even thought about that aspect of HJ2 until you posted that. lol
Food for thought anyway. :-?Purple Sage Estates - 129 -
What's wrong with HJ2 having it's own training & leveling scores? ;)

Do they not? I thought I did make then train twice as fast. I remember something to that effect.

I don't think they train twice as fast. Very few horses end up leveling off and showing well.

The exact same amount of horses show well as on the main server. It is rather a statistical guarantee.

I think we are only noticing a perceived difference because of the sheer scale difference. Many of us over at HJ1 have hundreds (some of us have thousands) of show horses, so when some level off in a bad place, we don't really notice. Here, the numbers are so much smaller that when we have some level off in a bad place, it's hard not to notice.Purple Sage Estates - 129

A small amount of data:
I checked out 6 foundation stallions in my H&J 1 stable with a PT of 9.9, ranging in age from 10 to 17 (3 17yo, 1 15y/o, 1 14y/o, 1 10yo). There was one that reached 6N, one at 6L, three at 5W and 1 at 5R. I'm assuming that a small part of the variation here is due to the age of the horses and more is due to exactly when in the year the stallion was created (i.e. close to the beginning of the 2-month year or close to the end of it) and the age of the stallion at creation, whether 2 or 3.
I have only one H&J 2 foundation stallion with a PT of 9.9. He is 11 and leveled off at 4L. He was a gift from my Secret Santa, so I have no idea of the details of his creation and training history before he came into my barn at Christmas time, but once again age at creation and when in the year he was created probably are a factor of his leveling off point.
There does seem to be a difference here, but there's not enough data from my H&J 2 stable to come to a conclusion.
On the other hand, since the two stables do not interact with each other, it really isn't a critical difference. These are not identical games, so I will just have to resolve not to carry expectations of probable leveling off points from one to the other.
As for CJ Stables' observation that few horses end up leveling off and showing well-- I really find that very, very few H&J 1 horses end up leveling off at a profitable score too. I just have collected more of them there, since I have played that game longer. *G*De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Leveling off in a good spot or not is just luck of the draw, and isn't really going to change much regardless of how fast the horses train.
I could be wrong though, as I only have anecdotal data.
HJ2 horse
DS2 Revan is 8, has a 9.7PT, has been in training since birth and is scoring right around 83 points at shows. She is pretty typical of an HJ2 horse. http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=16281
HJ1 horse
"EL Jan 2013 423" is 8, has a 9.7PT, has likely been in training since birth, though I can't confirm that, and is scoring right around 160 points at shows. She is pretty typical of an HJ1 horse. http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2249076
Something seems off. It doesn't seem like two equal age/pt score horses who have been in consistent training should be that far off in scores. If the goal is to keep the games roughly the same then something might need tweaking. I don't think they need to be exactly the same, It just means we won't see horses in the higher tiers for a very long time. Ultimately it's Ammit's call, I just wanted to point out that I was seeing a difference, since I was pretty sure it wasn't intentional.
