Help with DP
  • Hi everyone! Since getting my Freaky Friday mare this morning, I've read through the other discussions regarding DP, and have become quite interested in breeding the gene. I have a few animals that I've bred as well as a few that I've purchased that I'm stuck on, and can't seem to identify them. I am hoping someone could help me out!

This fellow only has one copy of Ssty, but seems awfully dark? He's also the first 'A' papered stallion I've produced since re-joining the game- woot woot!

I bought this chap because I loved his crisp, red colour, in combination with being a Silver. I didn't learn that DP makes Wild Bays, Blood Bays until after I purchased him, so now I'm curious! He only has one copy of Ssty as well, thoughts on him?

Another guy I bought. He isn't as bright red as Meteoric, but he's still bright-ish to me?

Another question- do Chocolate Pals always have 1 copy of DP? I produced this little gent today.

AND these last two are ones that I am fairly confident are DP, but correct me if I'm incorrect to think that! I bought the filly and produced the colt :D

Thanks in advance for any insight anybody provides! Happy Holidays!
  • OK so first things first when looking for DP in bays is to look at their bellies! I'm not that good with bay dp, but I believe their bellies turn a richer/darker colour. I don't believe that your first foal has dp.

For AAA 4G Meteroic Dawn, his dad looks like he's a hom dp liver, or a black chestnut. The light brown on his dad on the belly/neck is caused by S+, which interacts like that in the presence of dp. This means that your boy will be at least het dp.

The third, granddad on one side is het dp, while the other is hom (Mr. Meteoric), so he's certainly got dp behind him in both lines! Can't tell if dad or mum has it, although he is very very similar in shade to my het dp, hom sooty A+ mare here, which makes me think he could very well be hom dp himself (Am not experienced with dp bays though): image

To get a chocolate palomino or a liver, the horse must have at least three darkening genes. This is usually two copies of sooty and one copy of dp. The only difference between a chocolate palomino and a liver is usually the chocolate has a copy of cream, and that is all. Your boy has het dp I think, and here's a hom dp choco pally to compare: image

KingofFreak is of course a dp. It's simple genetics. If a horse has two copies of a gene, in this case his mum has two copies of dp ((All FF do, with RoF, KR and DC being het), the baby will have at least one copy of the gene. I can say for certain that he is at least het dp, am not sure if he got the dp from his dad though.

I'm not too sure on the final (second to last) horse though...
