Showing Advice
-
Hi all,
As a new player I haven't really got the hang of the showing system yet. All my mares have been tested, and my two stallions too, for both showing aptitude and breeding quality. Which ones should I show, if any, and are the ones that were 'undecided' likely to blossom into good show prospects if I just keep throwing them into shows?
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

Show all the Things!! Seriously, put them all to work right now. You'll get a feel for how things work pretty quickly and can tweak who shows when, but for now keep them all in the ring!
-
Yep, show everything you can! Any points they gain get you money in the long run. :)
-
I show all my horses, breeding and altered. You get a daily hb (game money) bonus for points they earn. Hope that helps you out.
-
Thanks so much for all the advice! I definitely will keep them all in the show ring then! And, as you say, I can always tweak them later!

Hey Tall! A pro tip is that you earn the show bonus for all the points you own, not just the points you earn. If you are currently holding young foundation non-breeding horses with very few points, it might be worth it to look into selling them at auction and buying/adopting some older, higher gen show ponies that already have accumulated several hundred points. This only works if you can replace non-breeding stock, but it would provide a significant boost to your show bonus with even just a handful of horses.
(For every 4 points you "own" you earn 3 hbs/week...I haven't managed to figure out the new conversion since we are now on daily pay outs but the formula should still hold true over the course of a week).
Sometimes high point horses come up at auction--just remember horses start "aging out" of the game at age 18, so don't go buying horses in their mid teens thinking you are likely to hold onto them for a long time. I would look for horses age 10 and under with 500 or so points.
Several of us have herds of successful show ponies available to adopt for a low fee. You can search Available to Adopt in the tattoo slot on the horse search. I personally have a barn of horses set aside to adopt out to new members, so if you're interested shoot me a PM and we can work out a deal for you. -
By the way, the above tip and offer is available to all new players!

Hi Cheers! This is some solid advice - I have accumulated a ton of non-breeding low-level horses and ponies that, I agree, aren't doing much at all for my bank balance!
Thanks so much for the tip! *runs off to sell some low-level pons*

Here is a link to my adoptable barn. As you can see, I have quite a few horses with 500+ points.

@Cheers - would you recommend neutering a foundation mare that passed the breeding test but was created as a Good Show Horse (from the Herd Helper)? I understand that neutering her will help her train faster, but I don't know whether her goals would be worth keeping her intact for anyway (as I'm a free member so cannot access mare testing and the like ;p )
Your advice so far has been priceless!
~Acorn -
Hey! I would keep her as a breeder if you like her color and snip her if you don't. I have both in my herd.

Ok...so I just started playing several days ago and have been scrolling through some discussions to see if I can learn anything. And I'm slightly confused...for show horses, some say they have earned a lot of points and a lot of hb's but where it says "profit", it is in red and says -200, or something like that. Does that mean the horse has actually lost you money...or is that how much you've lost putting that horse into shows? Also, if the profit is not red but black...sometimes there is either a (+) or (-) behind it.... What does that mean? All advice is appreciated! Thank you!!!:)
-
The profit tracker is what you think it is, except it doesn't really matter! :P
In the long run it is the points earned that you want to watch. A horse can come in 3rd out of 8 and still earn points and that is good. It won't be much money, but it will get some points. Last place is the only place that doesn't get you points, even just a few. Last place gets you none.
The reason the points are important are because they are what earn you your daily showing bonus. Every day you get extra hbs because of all the points your horses earned. There are several pages here on the forum that talk about showing bonus points, that will explain it better than I can. I'll see if I can dig up some links.

Ok thank you so much! That helped a lot!
