Guys Does this guy have DP?
-
I normally wouldn’t even care but I got him and a cherry drop side by side and I’m super confused now.

This is a cherry drop I found.

I'm not much of a DP expert on bays, but we know that the Cherry Drop is non-sooty and homozygous DP, and that foal looks to be about the same color as your non-sooty bay, so he might be, though I'd be surprised if a random create would be homozygous for DP.
I hope someone with more experience with DP bays can step in and give another opinion.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I am not that great at it either and really need to learn as my secondary account breeds for DP in bays and browns, so I will be following this conversation.
Here are some helpful links that I reference quite a bit as I am learning:

I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
I'm not 100% certain he's hom, but he's almost undoubtably het for DP. Good eye!ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -
I’m thinking he might be het DP. He pretty closely matches this horse in the first link that is a non sooty, het DP.
Jimbird
Your boy is a touch lighter, but we know that het pearl can cause a slight lightening of the coat. But he is definitely darker than the non sooty, non DP example of a normal bay. But I don’t think I would call him a true brick red hom DP either. -
So he’s het at least. Possibly hom but pretty much I’ll only know for sure if I try to GMT him or breed him?
-
I’m thinking he is het, yes. But I am no expert in bay DP.
-
Ok thank you.
-
I'd say het. We know Cherry Drops are hom DP, but the wild bay dilutes them a tiny bit, making a homDP Cherry lighter than a homDP true bay. This is a Cherry with normal bay, no sooty, still hom DP. It makes him a true blood bay, for now. I plan to GMT him more later. Lol

Your colt is het DP. I've had Hom DP creates though, so its not impossible.
