@Amgr1992 thats the nice thing about SS, you select which price range of hbs you want to keep it under (get paired with someone else in the same price range so no one feels cheated/disappointed) and are under no obligation to spend RL money on the SS :)

@CeffylDwr they are doing alright but we have a feeling my baby b is gonna decline so they are under close observation. Maybe I'll get someone that has special gene licences that I have!

I kind of feel the same way. I was so excited that this is my first year w/ SS. I was going to do the "skys the limit" but my hubby just got laid off. I'm still doing it but I just picked another category!

@amgr1992 - based on the experiences I've had here and the posts I've read on the forum, I know whom ever youre assigned to will love and appreciate anything you get for them. I haven't met/talked to one person on this game that would make me thing they wouldn't appreciate anything. I think you're being too hard on yourself.

And even if you do the up to 250k category, you will still be able to find some amazing gifts. Most everybody runs huge sales with super deep discounts for people doing Secret Santa shopping, so you’ll be amazed at what you can afford to give (and get).

And shoot - Candy ponies themselves are FANTASTIC gifts! Don't get bummed and I KNOW whomever you get will absolutely appreciate it. :D

I am doing the up to 250k with Chilli this year - which is what I did last year - it's amazing how much you can get for that as people are super generous for your SS pressies :) And people are always happy with pretty show ponies, good show ponies, any spare RSs hanging around, straws etc etc - you don't have to spend lots of money - take a look at people's likes and dislikes and have fun :X

I’ve been playing for as long as SS has been running (I started hj1 nye 2006). I didn’t join the first year or so because I felt I couldn’t possibly do right by my SS. But I worked up my courage to join the under 100,000 one year. The next year I joined both categories and have not looked back since.

While circumstances outside of hj have prevented me from using real money every year I was hoping to this year. Since I do want to support the game.

Unfortunately I’ve had one heck of a month of up and downs from promotions, funerals, my birthday, and finding out I had less than 15 days to not only find a new vehicle to finding one in time for financing to be processed before my current car is no longer allowed to be on the road this Friday. Bye bye money.

If you have 300,000 hbs I would join both the lower categories. From my experience I have struggled to spend that much between both my SS’s and they both drown in gifts because we belong to an amazing group of generous people.

Also you can think outside the box for gifts.

I would absolutely love if someone spent some time going through my herd of nameless intacts and sent me a list of horse links and a name for them! I wouldn’t even care if it was only a handful or two. It would make a slight dent.

If you can afford to have your show bonus dip a bit give them a small (or however large) herd of show horses. (Or if you already own fantasy genes some pretty altered babies or intacts if you both own the license)

If you have other talents such as tattoo or banner making those make good gifts.

Those all are fairly costless since they come from stock you already have.

Although if you do do 2 categories use a notepad (paper or app), spreadsheet or word document to write down who you have and their likes and dislikes and their gifts (including #’s) separately to keep things organized.

Sometimes people see that your looking for certain things and will just send you things to fit the bill without telling you that they did and your own SS May start to send you gifts early and Christmas Eve you are sitting there thinking who did I get this for?

One year my SS sent me straws to the same stallion I had gotten straws to send to my Ss and I almost sent those along too but I stopped sending them at my # I had written down.

The Secret Santa is really popular around here and everyone loves to help everyone else find neat things for their giftees. I love to help out anyone I can. I was hesitant about getting involved at first too, because I didn't think I could possible give anyone as nice as stuff as I received. But the community helped me to find great horses and straws and made me feel comfortable about being part of our celebration. If there is anything I can help you with please send me a message.
