Black chestnut?

What do we think? Sire is confirmed DP, possibly homozygous. He has Sooty+...his dam is awful dark for only having one Ssty...
And if we think his dam has DP, do we think it came from her sire or dam's side? Fj, you own Grey Goose now...might influence your future breeding decisions if we decide she's the carrier!
Thanks for giving your opinion, y'all! -
My opinion..... It is a close one, but I think just Liver Chestnut, not Black Chestnut.

Hmmmm He's way darker then my homo sty het DP boy but he also doesn't look black. I wonder if the silver gene effects DP at all?
-
I agree with fj hes like an inbetween!
-
Silver only dilutes eumelanin--black, so no, it probably won't affect DP, unless the horse is heterozygous at Extension--Ee. However, that is just a guess. I'm not the expert that Ammit is.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I'd say yes, two copies of DP. Color testing would give more info, but it's possible he's SstyS, which would make him lighter than a double sooty black chestnut.
Lambrusco has no foals that make me think he's carrying DP, so I'd say it's coming from the dam, but it's a tough call on Grey Wool and Grey Goose both, just going by their color. -
The foal carries S+, which is what is throwing me off. I don't know if that is enough to darken his coat to almost black along with a single DP. I don't want to color test him now as he's a show pony--B papering isn't good enough to stay intact at gen 3! But I am fairly confident that he is S+Ssty and has one copy of DP. I will try to remember to breed Grey Wool to another DP stallion next season, whether that's Rivendell or a King foal, and see what I get! Thanks everybody!

You can't leave me hanging like that. I sent you 2000. Color test him for the sake of my curiosity. :)
Why are you sure he got Ssty from his dam? -
It was just a hunch!

Knowing that, I'm guessing he's het for DP... -

This guy seems darker to me and he has DP on both sides and the S+...yes, I realize I could have done this last night but I was tired... -
Good hunch!
