Homozygous W2 isn't always lethal. None of the kit genes are. As a matter of fact hom W2 is actually a moderate risk, as is W2 and SB1. I think anything of a medium WF or higher can result in a lethal foal. If the foal got the frame, that could push the WF up more than usual.

@KAM I think you just got really unlucky. I’d try again next season.

@JustaSaddletramp one thing to think about is the whiter the horses you cross, (not the lighter, but the more white markings, Appaloosa being the exception to the rule), the more dangerous the cross is. So markings like W1, W2, W10 tend to make a horse quite white as does Sabino with a high white factor. So if you want to cross those patterns, just look for horses with lots of color and not very much white. It’s never 100% safe, but it’s safer!

Yep, adding Splash or Frame to a moderately risky cross and then adding extensive White factor too...I love my flashy pattern combos but it sounds like that foal got too many of the dangerous genes combined...doesn’t mean you can’t try again, but I’d definitely be looking for low White factor mares for that lovely boy.
