Brindle Question
-
I love brindle horses so much, but I just can't seem to figure out how their genetics work! I've been treating it like a regular gene and just breeding brindle to brindle, but haven't been getting any brindle foals. I'm sure this is a super silly question so I apologize for asking, especially if the answer is super obvious! Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Brindle is awesome and everyone loves it, but similar to real life expression, Brindle isn’t a gene. It’s a random mutation and happens only very rarely in lined (bred) horses. It seems to me that having a Brindle somewhere in the pedigree does up your chances of Brindle offspring in the future, but it’s just not really something you can breed for. I will say lined Brindle seems to be most common in gen 2 horses (the offspring of foundations) with at least one Brindle parent, but I would say optimistically that it’s maybe 1 in every 1000 foals? Probably more rare than that...

Brindle isn't a regular gene, it's a mutation. Every horse, bred or created, in the game has a random chance to pop out as a brindle. This chance DOES increase a bit with brindle parents, but it's still insanely rare.
There are sometimes events or RS that, when created, will always be brindle. This horse here was created during an event called "Brindle Breakout". Every horse created during that event was a brindle (although it excluded bred horses).

Oh that makes sense! Thank you! I was wondering why none of their kids were coming out brindle. I'll just have to keep breeding and hoping I get lucky!! :)ID# 40515

Not sure how I missed the Brindle Breakout event last Dec. That makes me sad. :(
Edit: I didn't miss it. I remember now. I should have taken better advantage with it and not worried about hoarding HBs for the next breeding season. -
Ive gotten 4 brindles bred in 2nd generation out of 1027 horses bred. I'm not sure if that number includes created foundations. But I've gotten 4 2G brindles so far!

I've bred or created over 14 thousand horses in this game, many of them from at least one brindle parent or descendent, and have gotten only two brindles the entire time! One a 6th gen with no brindle parents, and the other a gen2 with one brindle parent

I've got 3 gens in a row Brindle!

There was one brindle RS stallion I know of that had about one brindle foal per season.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
Last season I bred 4 brindles. This year I have none (so far)!
I was very lucky last year :)
I like to breed most of my 24 brindle stallions at least half of their possible coverings each season - no where near that yet. 150ish out of a possible 1200 (or the 600 I might manage) ! -
I just looked and I have bred or created almost 3000 horses and I have bred 5 Brindles.

Wow, RavenCreekFarm, I can't see the Brindle in the last one! Now I'll have to be sure I do genetics on all my Foals!
-
I love brindle so before I auction my culls every season I do a search of my foals and that last one was a big surprise!
-
@CollectingColts if you use the search, you can search for brindle (on the Pattern tab) without gene testing.#28036
