Really Sad Today
-
I just came back from an IEA show to hear some very sad news.
For 3 years I had a really, really cool horse. His name was Chevy, and no matter your discipline/breed of choice to watch him trot around the arena would just give you goosebumps. He was 16.3, had a big stride, but was built like a halter horse. We were tough to beat in HUS, and halter. We embarrassed ourselves in WP. But he was also "Special" in a few other ways. He was colored much like a gunner. He had a bald face that was completely bald with the white extending onto his neck. The other side was horizontally half white. There was a line that curved around his eye, straight down then curved to under his jaw. He was deaf. He shedded out like 3 different colors. Sometimes it looked like he had a dun stripe.
Chevy had no points when I got him but I started showing and we got over 100 paint points in
HUS (2 ROMs)
Eq
SMS (ROM)
HMS
WP
Trail
Reining
Halter (ROM)
We even tried hunter hack
and numerous high point, and year end awards.
Anyways, I'll try to get pictures, but my Mom and I were ready to get a horse that we could share. We sold Chevy to a nice lady in Hawaii. She had issues with him spooking a couple times but they got past that pretty quickly. They figured out how they wanted to communicate. She trail rode him. He was a barn favorite and everyone would come to give Chevy a hug. I was hoping that eventually I could go and visit him. I've always wanted to see Hawaii and he was my first nice horse. She was planning on taking him to a few horse shows, and show some people "What a true english horse looks like".
Anyways.... I just got told that he had to be put down Saturday. He was fed his dinner, and was happy/healthy. Then an hour later she got a call that he had somehow broken his leg.
I'm just really sad as this was truly a once in a lifetime horse, and he was truly amazing, and put his heart and soul into every ride.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -

They were able to bury him by the barn. Where I am we can’t bury the horses so I’m glad they were able to. I hope I can go see his grave someday. They said he got more flowers than any of the rest of the horses they had buried there beforeBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Sending you my deepest sympathy. He was truly a great looking horse, and it sounds like he was one of the very special ones in character and ability as well.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

whoa, that's awful! so sudden. :-((
-
Sending you big hugs. Hate this for you and especially for your special guy. I’m so sorry.
-
Thank you everyone. All the sympathy really helps. I can’t get my mind around how he could have done this. He was 12 years old and in his stall. Exercised regularly so everything should have been built up and strong. They X-Rayed him when they got him just 4 months prior and nothing unusual in his hocks (what broke)Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Beautiful. So sorry. I wish there was words but it is hard. I have lost 2 of my favorites almost 8 years ago. A mother daughter 2 months apart. I always remember what they gave me and it helps. Always remember he will never be to far from your heart and mind.
