Breeding Question
  • Does the game notify you if the stallion is too closely related to the mare? If so-how many generations back? Trying to figure out if I need to create a database for them.
  • The game has no inbreeding problems whatsoever, as in even if you bred foals all descended from one stallion and one mare and kept going as closely as possible, nothing bad would happen simply because of family. If you want to keep lines from inbreeding too much, you'll have to figure something out, but I wouldn't make it too stressful on yourself.
Personally, I don't like full siblings or grandsiblings breeding together, but past that as long as there are some other stallions in the mix I don't mind it. :)

  • I have no problem breeding closely related horses. As long as they have a chance of producing the quality and colors I want, I will breed cousins, half siblings and even full siblings. I would even consider parent to offspring, depending on the line. In real life, inbreeding or linebreeding is an extremely valuable method of breeding. It helps to "fix" desired traits and also to weed out undesirable traits. Since the game doesn't have any genetic disorders, then the only "undesirable" genes would be whatever genes you prefer not to have. For me, I am trying to eliminate standard bay (A) from my herd, so all my foundation stallions do not have that allele, and most of my mares do not. I interbreed the resulting generations based on which pairing is more likely to give the genes I want and less likely to pass on genes I don't want - for example, I don't breed two A gened horses, but I will breed an A to an A+, At or a gened horse, no matter how closely related.
That said, if you chose not to inbreed closely, you will have to come up with a way to organize your horses to keep bloodlines straight.
