I am curious what strategies people are using to gain points and earn money for the contest as 90,000 doesn’t go very far especially when half the money comes in in small increments.

(25,000 starting money, 25,000 welcome pack, 40,000 paydays start to finish unless you upgrade)

The sales boards were fairly picked over before I joined the rat race but I’ve picked up a few horses with a few points but don’t want to waste my money buying the expensive horses that have a good number of points

To be honest i think this competition will be down to luck! Getting the right horses at the right time.
Long term i know how to make money but this short term is really hard!

My plan is to buy as many high pointed breedable mares.
Pasture breed them and sell the Foals to buy more mares and other high pointed ponies.
Also keep an eye out for Exceptional show horse HH :D

Would the ES HH really make a difference for the competition though? They only have 2 months to earn points and they'll start with no points and no training?

I too think it will be a lot to do with luck and lots of manual train and show everything. Trying to pick up high pointers has never been easy - will be even harder now. I took a chance with a couple of oldies at auction - 1 passed over, the other didn't but I suspect it may next month so I don't think that was necessarily a good idea :D

I feel like I've already given up. Ha. I used up all my money making and buying a couple horses with some points, but I'm just gonna try my best and try big as small can go and see just how it turns out. Lol :D

@KAMRanch I feel your pain, I don't have a lot of money left, in fact if I buy another horse either HH or private sale I would have like 19 hb total. I was temped to but one of the HH ESH but I had to let that go - no money lol. But I am enjoying the contest.

I also have basically already given up when I wasn't able to get a single horse off the auction out of bidding on 50 lol. I figured it was a sign that this is going to be super competitive (as it should be - that's an awesome prize!). I'm just not sure that I have the time/desire to invest the amount of time to trawl to get pointed horses lol.

I'm starting with a mixture of new create mares and a couple of high papered youngsters. I've struggled to find any high pointed horse in my budget. I'm enjoying the challenge anyway.

I am going through my barns as well and culling show horses. I plan on putting at least 100k per day’s worth of show horses in the auctions this month. None will be older than 16. I will continue to cull monthly, but far fewer horses than I will cull this month. Probably closer to 30k per day’s worth.

Right now I am looking at culling horses between 12 and 16 with 100-500 points.

I will try to space them out so folks have a chance to get HB’s back.

I know Ammit is likely SWAMPED with new accounts and starter packs for those accounts, but I am hoping they aren't too far behind so I can try to buy more horses. **crossing fingers**

I don't think I'm going to do any breeding at all (Except to sell foals for more money). Trying to get high pointed horses but those are few and far between. So also been looking at horses that are well trained even if people hadn't been showing them. Those will get points faster than some of the others. These have been mostly from foundation rescue (which some of the foundation rescue horses haven't been up for sale, I'm probably just missing it.) I'll probably breed the mares and sell the foals. Most have their training leveled off anyway to altering them wouldn't do any good. Also keeping an eye out for horses with high PT over 4 years old. I think this will mostly be luck.

Don't think new creates is the way to go personally nor is trying to bootstrap breed.

Welcome packs are fully automated now, I don't have to do anything with them. :D

Yeah, new creates or bootstrap breeding are long term projects. 2 months isn’t enough time. Honestly, half the reason I’m not competing is because I have no idea how you would go about establishing a show herd in 2 months. It has gotten me thinking about the difficulties new players face though, and what I could do to help out on a regular basis.

I regret buying old horses on Tuesday. 3 out of 4 of them got nicked by the rollover fairy.

It really is NOT too late to be competitive. Most people only have a scant handful of points. I mean, you can only show your horses twice, so there won't be any more points available until Sunday...

I'll jump on the regret wagon for oldies. Bought 4(!) and 2 of them are gone. *sigh* Ah well, I knew I was rolling the dice when I did it and of course the other 2 will likely be gone the next rollover but such is life.

My approach is so far not a winner. I am getting a whopping 30 hb's per day. At this rate I may have been farther ahead if I just kept all the money I got when I started and did nothing. Lol. Will probably breed some foals and sell them, not sure where from there.

I'm getting a good 84hbs a day here. I guess i'm gonna try for the tortoise method. Invest in mid to low point show prospects and hope my investments pay off. Shelling out 10K for a 1000+ point horse seemed a bit much but what do I know.

Just for contrast, my TARDIStables account, which I made to play, but not enter the contest, is making 374 hbs a night with the help of 2 AtA horses.

Right now I am getting 111 hbs. But no money so not sure I made the right decision. So gonna try to breed what I have and auction the foals so maybe I can find me some more show ponies. I think my method wasn't to smart but it might pay off in a month.

I’ve been collecting mostly mares with points and plan on breeding them and sell the foals and maybe some of the lower pointed mares. I doubled my show bonus today and reached triple digits woot lol 16 horses, 13hbs per day. Not incredibly great but I’m having fun going into parts of the site I rarely venture in my main account because of automations (not complaining I don’t have to hand train & show 2000 horses lol)

I don't really have a strategy, per say, but I'm getting 100hb a day and still have over 10000hb, so I'm doing fairly well so far I think.

I'm already struggling with this :( It's so weird that this is where i started those couple years ago. Now i just can't figure out how to do this in a smart manner. I'm only making 86hbs a day on my contest account and i have approximately 700+hbs on that account... *Sigh* I'm bad at this.

I can understand that AHayesHorses. I’ve played hj1 for 11 years now and came over to hj2 not long after it was created (main account bandit1119 ID# 137) so I already had some strategies in place before I started and understood it wasn’t sprint but a long distance race so I wasn’t in a rush to gain as many points as I could as fast as possible. Pretty sure I just created a bunch of mares and started my breeding program and kept as many of my foals as I could fit and patiently waited for them to grow up because I was already accustomed to waiting lol

I am at 55hbs a day which isn't great but I have a plan for coming up with more money to buy more show ponies. Hopefully it works!

I'm literally making 16 buckaroos a day so far and only 66 hbs in my account :)) good god not having an upgrade sucks! Slow and steady guys and hope we get some good show ponies and they do well for us.

My strategie is just to try to gain as many points and horses as I can in any contest legal way I can, I’m currently at 220ish hbs a day which will hopefully improve quite quickly and hopefully my old horses will live until the 1st of April.

I'm hoping not all the high pointers go in auction - I can't bid at the end as the auction ends at 2am for me here. I suspect if there are some people from Eastern Europe it will be at 3/4am.

I'm at 502 points and 53 hb a day on my contest account. Might sell my non pointed mares as well. Was just going to sell the Foals when I breed them :))
