"preveiw" project plans/discussion
  • I'll be using this as my preview project thread from now on so I don't spam the forum :\">

Because I don't have unlimited horses I had to make sets with certain tack packs. I also don't own all of the tack packs available in the IV store (sadly)

Contest for "preview tack" design: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/46386/help-pick-a-tattoo-design-contest#Item_5

    finished tack packs:
    -LaZer Event (christmas)
    -Stud belt/Coventry/Fair (draft exclusive)
    -Western trail ride
    -Halloween

    tack packs to go:
    -Long and Luscious (manes&tails)
    -Build-A-Bridle
I'll try to buy more tack packs in the future

How would you like to see me preview the build-a-bridle pack? That one has so many items I might need more horses. my plan was to put them in sets when they have them (e.g. patent broadband with the patent noseband) but I'm unsure on how to model the different bits. Should I out a hanger and a bit on each horse then use a basic D-ring bit to model the full bridles? Should I even do full bridles or just slap on of each item on a single horse?

another questions, should I include regular tacked horses in the preview? I have some breeding and show stock that have some nice tack on them. They could be used as inspiration.
Maybe I'm putting to much thought into it. I just really like dressing up horses.

  • I think you're doing great! I love seeing all the tack options so I can decide which packs id like next. Also, I do enjoy seeing other folks tack and color schemes as it is inspiring to dress up and have fun with my show ponies!
Fine appaloosa riding horses, Axiom blue and green, ice 1, ice 2, and ice 8
  • May I make a suggestion? Once you've chosen an tattoo, I'd delete the "preview" in each horse's name so you have more room to put the title of the tack they're wearing. :)

Then just make the tattoo name with the word preview in it somewhere.

For the bridle pack, I think do what makes the most sense to you that is easily discernible to people that don't have the pack. Also, I think it would be lovely to see the horses you've already dressed up, I'm always looking for inspiration!

  • Will you be doing the luster dust tack packs? I have one of them and since theyre pricey was wondering if you wanted someone who owns it to do previews for it!
  • I sent you the cash to buy the two tack packs you want ;) Have fun!

  • thanks everyone!
@BlueValley that's a great idea! I was trying to think of a way to make it so I can put the take pack name as well as item name. It'll suck to have to rename roughly 200-400 horses but that's what this is about!
I'll think about the bridles a bit more and come up with something. All together I think there are 30 individual bridle items. I have it wrote down but don't have the paper in front of me.

@MoonAcre I'd love to do the luster packs but they are way to expensive for me. If you want to do them then go for it! I think it's be really cool to get other members in on the project too! Not sure how well get the tattoo on them with out breaking any rules. For now just pit preview in the name.

@Maribo thank you so much! However I have a question which tack pack are you refuting to? I own the long&luscious and the buildAbridle packs. The packs that I want to get include the big floof and simply sheets. Is that okay to get?

  • Lol, I've reworked the naming system for my horses 3 times and had rename them all. I understand the pain, believe you me!

I'm sure whichever you decide will be just fine. :)

  • Dressing up horses is super fun! You know, an idea for the tattoos - just have a system with numbers or ranch initials, like "TackPreview SV" might be mine, and then when people search they just put the first part in and it'll bring up all the horses with tattoos that start with that term? Did that make sense?

Anyway, I'd be happy to do the Long and Luscious, and/or Dressage packs for you!

  • Oops, sorry for not responding! The thread totally slipped me. I sent the cash for the two packs you mentioned in the top post, but feel free to buy any you'd like :)

  • I forgot to update you guys! I have all of my planned tack previews done. And all of them tattooed with some full sets as well.

The tattoo is called "TackPreview." if anyone would like to add their own tack packs or to add their own tack inspiration then be my guest. You'll have to get you own tattoo I think. I'd like to keep everything simular so please keep with the camera theme and have preview in the horses name of the tattoo so it's easier for everyone to find.
If you add to it then let me know and I'll put it in the OP.
If you do a full tack pack preview then try to use the same 3 colors and preview one item per horse. Makes it easier to see what colors can be applied and how many :)

@Maribo I think I'm going to use it for the newest tack pack and maybe another one if I have extra!

@Summervine it made sense lol. That would work. I think if I have more people that want to add to the list then I'll do a master post of sorts where I'll add a list of all people who have participated
    Example:
    Tack pack: Luster Dust
    Stable: MoonAcre Stable
    Tattoo Name: "TackPreview MAS"

  • I don't remember.....can you still view the pictures after the horse dies? and does the tack stay on them? If not, you may want to consider copying the pictures to Imgur or something, just in case.

  • You can still view the pictures of deceased horses, for sure, but I don't know about the tack - it certainly doesn't keep it when the auction bidder buys it.

Having a gallery is a really good idea, though. Then you don't have to mess with tattoos or anything

  • It could be fun, though, if a few people joined together so all tack packs were accounted for, then users that don't have a certain tack pack (who also might not know the names of every item in that tack pack) could order a preview of a certain item or set.

ex. "I'd love to see the dressage surcingle and bridle in a chocolate colour", then the user that has that pack could post a link/image to one of their horses in the ordered items--perhaps it could be a bit more interactive for players that would like to do a little more. :)

I'd also like to second the gallery idea, it could be posted in the FB group.

The idea of tack previews is such an nice idea, as a resource for new players that are still trying to rack up points--it gives them something else to look at and play around with.

  • The archive doesn't own the extra tack packs (sadly) so they won't show up after they die. I tried to preview my packs on horses under 12 years for that reason lol.

I wouldn't mind putting together a gallery with the tack packs I have. Id need help finding what would look best and be The most effective though. The way I've done it, so far, is giving each item its own horse that way you know exactly what is available and where it's placement is. That's why I have my items previews as well as my "inspiration" previews which has full tack.
I'm not sure if adding that many images for each item is practical. Layering an entire tack pack would be pointless since you woulnt be able to see anything. So I guess that would mean individual images. I'd only do this on the FB page too.
All of my previews have the items name as the horses name. So you can search specific items/see exactly what that item looks like.

As far as asking for a specific color? No. To me that's way to much work and time. It took me hours to finish my previews. I don't have the time or patience to go through and do different colors upon request. I think using bright preview colors are enough to properly showcase what html code goes where for easy decorating later.
I think the only way to make an on demand "I want to see these items together with this color scheme" would be to make a sort of dress up game out of it.
In my opinion that's a very cool idea but it also defeats the purpose. My goal with this project was to create a simple way to look up tack packs, see what items were included and what the name of each item was, see what html code colored what area, and to see exactly where the item was placed on the horse.
Players can use the preview project to look through a tack pack before purchasing, to help them place items on there horses, and to help find inspiration to decorate their own horses. As far as specific colors and items layered together goes that's for them to play around with and figure out :)>-
That's way longer than I wanted it to be and I'm basically repeating myself I think lol
Not trying to sound rude I just think that part of buying tack packs is to do all of that "extra" work on you own

  • @ColorGoodStables

I'll get to work on some previews then! :D Is it ok if I put the tattoo on the corner of the image instead of on the horse?

Also, an easy way to do a gallery would be with Flickr (if we're allowed to use that?)! It has a TB of free storage for images and you can organize the images into albums. I'd be happy to take on that responsibility, too, if you'd like :)

  • What tack packs still need previews? I have all of them except lusters, holofoil and a couple background only packs.
I'd be happy to do the dressage one, if no one else has started it.

  • @Summervine @Haltanny
    -big floof
-dressage (I have this pack and plan to finish it this weekend)
    -Simply sheets
    -all of the luster packs
    -the holofoil pack
    -starry sky
    -free tack
--- if any one wants to do the free tack that'd be nice too. I know everyone has access too if but not everyone looks through it

And yeah I don't mind if you put the tattoo on the background. I put my preview tattoo on the horse and the inspiration tattoo on the background. You can do whatever works.

If you do your own previews try to use the same bright color scheme. I used bright blue, yellow, and purple for most of mine. Makes it easier to see the colors and where they are :)
