  • Welcome to Hunt and Jump. I think you'll find that this is a fascinating game. It's a complex game, but we are always glad to help new players out. There are lots of adults playing. The goal of the game is to build a successful stable that produces horses of the color and pattern (or colors and patterns) that you select and enter them in shows so that they will earn money for your stable. Cooperation is the primary atmosphere around here, as everyone is working toward their own goals, and competition between players is virtually non-existent.

You can create horses on the Create a Horse page or buy them from other players or the Foundation Rescue. The latter is a good source for beginning new lines with the best starting horses. Any that you find there will have 100% breeding ability and 100% showing ability, which is the highest foundation horses can have. Succeeding generations can get better than that, and with luck and careful breeding will. You can see what's on hand at the Foundation Rescue by going to the "Search Horses" page and entering 13 in the box for "Owner." You can choose the age of the horses you're interested in. Stallions must be 3 or older and mares 4 or older to be breedable. There is also a check box to select unbred horses, which is important for mares. They can only be bred once per year. Stallions can live cover up to 50 mares. Horses can no longer be bred after they turn 20.

You can search for horses up for public stud or brood on the horse search page. It's better to have mares and look for public stallions when you are starting out, but I think few of us have been able to resist having some of both.

You will have to train your horses. There is a link to the page for that on the left menu bar. They can then be shown twice a week. You show horses by clicking on the orange arrow to the left of their names and selecting one of the available classes. There is a chart on that page which lists the levels of the horse shows, with their entry fees and how many horses will be entered in each show.

Going through the posts in the "Help Me Out" section is a good way to look for some guidelines for the game. There is a link to a detailed guide for breeding near the bottom of the left menu bar, as well as the start of a guide to horse color genetics.

Feel free to ask specific questions at any time, the more specific the better, since those are the easiest to answer. Our motto is "There are no stupid or silly questions."
De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
