Does she have dp? I thought maybe her colour was caused by the wild bay gene but her baby is a complete different shade

Foal may be het dp hence the different color but not sure about the mare. :)

The mare looks like normal sooty buckskin and the foal het DP looking through the searches (DP from choccie mum!). I find DP fascinating that with wild bay the DP makes it lighter when ordinarily it goes darker. I have never noticed how pretty wild bay sooty buckskins are. A horse colour I prefer without DP. I am sure someone else with loads more experience will be able to tell you more. :)

Well there you go. It dude cross my lungs maybe foal picked dp hop groom dad just seemed too light.. all my other sty buckskins didnt look like the mare so i thought maybe it wad her. But weird if thats the wild bay reacting with her coat. I

Your mare does not have DP. Sooty buckskin mixed with wild bay is one of my favorite colors. The reason her daughter is lighter is her cream factor. Wild bays when mixed with DP turn into a bright blood bay color. Since she has the cream gene it dilutes that color out, if you were to remove the cream I bet you would have a bright blood bay filly.

Wild bay does all kinds of fun stuff when mixed with other genes.

Yes a sooty wild bay is dark almost like dark choc

and then the sooty wild bay with DP is that blood bay. But I'd never really looked at it in buckskin before. I suspect if my wild bay above hd 2 A+ genes she would look different again!

Oh man, it's a shame that white m boy with the red A+ got snipped. He's bloody gorgeous! I a little collector of wild bay, I'm so happy when I get flaming red little crackers. I was super happy when I got this hom dp, hom sooty little boy!

DP in bays is very underrated I think, especially in the wild bay! If you chuck in pearl on a hom dp one it makes something even more exciting,

It also gets confusing when you add in silver since it mellows down the tones at all.
