Question on breeding
  • If I was to breed a 14hh sport pony to a 16.2hh warmblood stud would that give me a warm blood or would it give me something else?

  • I think you would probably get a warmblood but it would be possible (unlikely) to get a sport pony. Depending on where both are on bone measurement, you could tip to the low end of draft or the high end of riding horse as well, but both parents would have to lean in the same direction I think.

  • It depends on the height of the foal, but yes, you are most likely to get a Warmblood. It could possibly be a sport pony foal if it's really short. Since your mare is on the taller side for a pony, she is much less statistically likely to produce a pony foal. I think this cross would be unlikely to produce a cob or riding horse.

This sport pony has a 50/50 record of Warmblood and sport pony foals when bred to various Warmblood sires, but at 13.2hh she's much shorter than your mare.
