  • Hi peeps,

Just wondering how people work out what prices to charge for studs and horses for sale.

I've been looking around, trying to work out a guide price but all the prices seem to vary so much.

Does anyone have a pricing system that I can use?

  • Well I price mine on quality and genes, so if it was a star papered'5G then I'd say about 20K, RS HH vary up to 70k , just depends what people breed for and sell x

  • Altered horses I tend to throw into auction. Even if they do have some points, mostly they're worth 2500 so if someone does want to buy them, they'd do it at auction.

Pricing foals 2G is 3k, 3G is 3.5k. More if they have special genes (dp, S+, etc), and maybe a bit less if they're colts. I add 500-1000hbs to the foal price for a grown mare.

    Prices are almost always negotiable.

One of the horse games I played a long time ago suffered a serious dearth of mares all of a sudden. If your mare was breedable and some "training" you could bet it would sell for the full price you could list a horse at(I think 100mil or something crazy high like that) and it would sell instantly. Which didn't make sense since you could create store horses for 1k and the training wasn't hard.

Totally off topic but that just tickled a memory out of me.

For on topic, I really just let the auction decide their prices. I keep foals who are fantastically colored and intact and not part of my breeding programs and sell them in the private auction when they turn 2, now that I'm heading into into 3gen I may start doing the same with foals that paper A/Blue. I did have a forum auction for a RS I didn't care for. Went for way more than what I would've priced her at, which is why I do auctions instead of strict sales.
