Show Ponies?

If I have a show pony that has never won a show and doesn't have any earnings or points and has a negative profit should I get rid of it and replace it? Does it mean that the horse is no good at showing?Where quality Show and Performance Horses are bred.

She has only showed a couple of times and she is young they don't start earning points until they are older I'd give her a little more time to prove her self then if it does not work out sell her..but I have horses that have negative 2,000hb but they still add to my show bonus because they are older and have won something. That's my advice someone else can add to it or correct me if I'm wrong lolThanked by 1Tipsy03

But what if you had a older one that didn't have anything either?Where quality Show and Performance Horses are bred.

Wait till they level off and see how they do then, sometimes apparent duds level off in a sweet spot and overnight turn into big earners, sometimes horses that one the little shows when they were young and looked promising level off and never win again. It's how they do after they level off that makes a difference because that will tell if they are in for the big points or not.

@Tipsy-- if I had a 5 or 6 or 7 year old show pony who had been religiously shown twice a week every week and had no points, I would be inclined to auction it and make room for another horse. Yes, it might level off in an awesome spot, but you could have a horse that's earning money now that also might level off in an awesome spot!
However, level 1L shows are 2 horse shows, so winning those is literally a coin flip. Winning or losing at that level is not at all indicative of how your horse will do later in life. Really, your horse has only ever been in one show and needs several more game years to grow up a bit.
The only time I cull potential show ponies based on points is when I snip established broodmares. My mares usually spend a couple seasons in barns showing before going to pasture, so if I'm snipping 8-9-10 year old mares, I tend to look at their accumulated points to decide if they get to stay in my barn or if they go to auction. I've probably sent some gems to auction that way, but my show foals are culled based on PT alone.Thanked by 1ObsidianKitsune
