I got this gorgeous guy and he let me down by testing really badly. I feel his pt is even low so is he worth gelding and keeping as a show pony or should I geld and stick in next auction?

So sad when the pretty ones get snipped. I typically don't keep horses for show ponies unless they have a PT of 10.5 or above. I would stick him in the auction.

A horse with a PT of 9.9 can make a decent show horse. It won't get to as high a level as one with a higher PT, but it can make plenty of points if it levels off with a good score. I have nearly 10,000 horses and my #9 top point earner only has a PT of 9.8: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=277050I was jllewis on the old forum.

I think I'll give him a chance, can always auction later if he doesn't do well
This guy made it all better so far!

10,000 Horses! Whew how do you keep up with them all? I thought I had bred all my horses and find out today that I missed a bunch. I have less than 1,000. Maybe 500 breeding horses.

@Skylight--most of us who have been around a long time have both the premium upgrade and tons of show ponies. The premium upgrade gives us access to Auto-Show, which enters whole barnsful of horses into shows automatically twice a week. As a result, our show herds are a bit "set and forget" and require little management, so we can focus on just our breeding herds. Generally people have at least 3 show ponies for every breeding horse in their barn, so Ondowa's breeding herd is probably 2000 mares or less. She will have a system in place for breeding and evaluating mares and foals and rotating stock through pastures born of long experience! I personally found 2000 mares was too many, so I'm trying to restrict myself to 1000 or less this time around.
