To answer your other question, member grade is a term without a lot of relevance to playing HaJ. It is based on the total number of horses that you have created or bred. Every time you do one of those things, a tally is kept. Each time you create and breed 100 horses, your member grade increases by 1. When you have created or bred another 100 horses (a total of 200), an extra stall is added to your Primary Barn. You can keep track of your progress on your stable Home Page where there is a bar with a message like, "n exp (experience) points to next bonus stall."

For example, my Member Grade is listed as 52 on my public stable page. I have 26 extra stalls in my Primary Barn, and I need 110 experience points before I will have 27 extra stalls.

When you sell a horse back to the game, one point is deducted from your experience points. There may be other times, but that is the one I'm positive about. It may also happen if you auction a horse and it's bought by the game's Auction Buyer and not another player.
