New York?

Does anyone here live in New York, Maine, Washington DC area (or go on vacations there) I'm taking a trip there in early July and wondered if anyone had ideas of what we could do.
Thank you everyone!Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
I've been to Maine and drove through New York. Niagara Falls was one of the main in NY. That was pretty neat. I went on a lobster fishing boat tour while in Portland, Maine and it made for some really cute photo ops and my boat director had some interesting stories and trivia. Also, I went on a boat tour of the harbor and that was cool to see all the lighthouses and islands. Sorry if this was things you already know lol. I'm not too well traveled.

Oh no, this is great, thank you! We know just about nothing. Literally. Only like "oh I think theres museums we could go to"

Oh ok, thanks!
Yay, I found a way to sneak in some horsey stuff! (I'm going with my "non horsey" side of the family)Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
I've never been to Maine but my dad grew up in the Boston area and his parents still lived there when I was a kid, and I second the lobster boat tour idea, that can be very interesting if you pick a good company. If you like seafood, you can go to one of the fresh seafood markets that are everywhere. The seafood is generally caught that morning and then sold the same day or sometimes the day after, so it's really fresh. In the case of lobsters, you buy them live and boil them yourself so if you're a bit squeamish you'll want to ask someone else to do that part.
Also, the whale watching season on the northern east coast i.e. areas like Maine runs from May to October so you'll be there at the right time for that if you're interested. Some tours specialize in humpback whales, some are more for the smaller predatory whales like orcas and pilot whales, and I believe there are shark watching tours too where they use bait to lure the sharks closer to the boat so you can see them, but I've never looked into that. Just make sure you choose a company that will give you a voucher for another free trip if no whales are sighted that day.
Also, even if it's super hot and humid that day, make sure you dress warm or bring extra warm layers to put on if you're going out on the ocean. It's colder when you go away from the shore, and if you're doing something like humpback whale watching where you typically go at least 10 miles offshore, it's a lot colder, especially with the breeze you get while the boat is moving. If you wear shorts or you don't bring a jacket, you will be very sorry lol.

Ooh, I would love to go on one of the boat tours. Just never really thought about it.
Unfortunately I'm not really into seafood, but Dad and Helen I think are so we'll for sure enjoy that. This is going to be by the farthest I've ever gone from home. Super exctied (Next year is Ireland with my school though)Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
Wow lucky you! I hope you have tons of fun! Theres tons of travel guides and "must sees" just google each destination and pick out which places you want to go to! Ive never been to maine or DC Ive been in new york twice. Once in Brooklyn with a friend to her aunts house and then when I went to Connecticut by bus I was in the city to get onto my second bus but I only stayed in the bus station lol. I got to see a tiny bit of the city from the bus but that was it.
Im planning on going and doing tourist-y things in the fall. I live in Pennsylvania so its pretty insane that Ive never explored NYC lol. -
And Ireland is even MORE exciting! I hope I get to go there some day.
-
Yea, I'm from AZ, so it's a bit of a trip for me lol. I just hope nothing happens so I can still go to Ireland.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
