AFPT of mares and gens?
  • I know I have been playing for a while. I am still unsure how to use this to cull my mares. I am wanting to make improvements but not sure how to use this aspect of the game? What AFPT do you look at for each gen.
  • I evaluate my mares once they have 3 foals and then for every foal thereafter.

I expect Foundation mares to have an AFPT of 10.0 or above. Gen 2: 10.5. Gen 3: 11.

Ammit has previously stated an increase of 0.4 points per generation is a good goal. My goal is a little more ambitious. I also always breed in pastures so have the pasture bonus. I cut mares used for straw breeding or egg breeding some slack.
  • Thanks Cheers. I think I am going to look hard at my mares and see who is improving and who isn't.

Do you use the same stud on the mares or different studs. I use several and not one has been used twice. I have a lot of studs and try to give everyone a chance in the breeding shed.

Will my mares AFPT scores still be pretty accurate or do I need to use the same stud for 3 seasons?
  • All of my foundations are PF equivalent or higher. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with my ExPerf or ExPro lines yet as far as AFPT....

For my other gens, I knew/will know my stallions are all of similar quality to each other (all AGA the same benchmark). Again, I may run into issues down the road with ExPerf/ExPro lines, but with my old lines, were I had one gen 2 A stallion, with strict culling and serious work, my stallions from regular lines were living up to the boosted line offspring at gen 4--my boosted line were low stars and my regular line were As that were AGA low stars.

So, as long as all of your boys are of similar quality, I think you can hold all of your girls to the same standard. I think making sure everyone has the same pasture bonus is more important in the long run.
