How should I use the pasture
-
I'm new to breeding horses other than for fun so I was wondering what should I use the pastures for? I've only used it to cover 2-3 mares at once to a stud, but I've seen people with a herd of mares in at once just holding them there. Just curious what I should do with my pastures
Thanks -
oops wrong post lol

The pasture is a wonderful thing!
1) breeding in the pasture costs half as much as breeding in the barn--only 500 hbs per foal, so it's a great money saver if you own the stallion you're breeding to.
2) but, if you have multiple stallions and mares in a pasture, you have no control over which stallion breeds which mares...
3) mares who stay in the pasture over time get a "pasture bonus" meaning that they throw foals only from the upper end of their breeding range (closer to the upper end the longer they are in there up to 30 days). But! They can't show in the pasture and you can only pasture breed them--if you pull them out of the pasture for even a second their timer resets to 0 days...so you need to plan this.
4) the stallion doesn't get a pasture bonus, so keep your boys in the barn so you can show them.
5) if you have a stallion in the pasture on the 13th-14th of the month, your pastures will automatically breed for you
6) remember to pull any foals out of the pasture if you want to keep them. They will be automatically erased before the 28th of the month if they aren't in your barns! -
Ok thank you! This helps a lot :)
