Managing With 1 Pasture
-
This is another advice/opinion thread, but... I have a basic upgrade, and have not purchased another pasture. I'm trying to get all of my "keeper" (1g, 2G and misc and I have multiple studs with different mares for each gen too) mares the maximum pasture bonus but having a bit of a hard time with it. I constantly have create mares coming through, breeding and auctioning most as rejects. Because of this my keeper mares rarely stay longer than a day or two, and I've seen a hit to my quality. How do other people manage it with just 1pasture? ( Advice from multi-pasture people is appreciated too...)

I tend to put my foundation keepers who aren't PF or with low pts in the pasture, and just take the money hit with the others. Now that I have a much bigger pasture with the basic upgrade, I'm thinking of putting my other gens in once they get high enough, so that they at least get half a bonus.
If you use your pasture for other horses but want a bonus for your keepers, why not put them in on the day breeding ends and breed them as soon as pastures open/you have the money for it next season? That way they may get a weeks bonus before you switch them out.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Ooh, I like that idea! Thanks. And I think it's cumulative so after a few seasons I would have a full bonus?Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

As soon as you move a horse out of pasture and into a barn, they lose all of their bonus. Even if it's for half a second, they'll get no more bonus. To keep them with bonus, getting another pasture to do breeding in is advised, because then one can swap between pastures. Eg. having 60 horses in one pasture, numerous gens, and moving them into pasture b for breeding.
Now lets say you put your keeper mares in your only pasture on the 27th, because you don't need to do last minute breeding, but ran out of money by the time the 5th came along. Your mares would have 12 days of pasture on sunday, which is almost half. You can then move them out of pasture after breeding, and use the pasture for your other mares.
As soon as you're done breeding with the pasture for the season, though, put your keepers in and keep them in. The longer the better.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
