Dark, but not chocolate? (More DP questions)
  • I've a liver chestnut stallion and I test bred him out to a straight palomino mare (mostly to test DP theories, don't have the eye yet). The foal produced is coming up as regular palomino splash, and het sooty obviously. But he seems darker, even accounting for the sooty (I've nosed through the search for comparisons). Would this be something to do with DP, or would he have to be chocolate palomino for that?

  • His mother had no Sty to pass on, but his father had Sty, and also DP to pass on, so he is as dark as a StySty pali.
  • I agree with KerredansCorral. I posted below a sooty palomino, no dp and they're about the same shade, which means your foal must have 2 darkening genes as well and, since we can only see 1 sty, there must be 1 dp in there as well.
