Organization!
-
I've just spent the past 2 hours organizing my mares and pastures. I'm almost done; anyone else getting ready for the new breeding season? If so, what steps do you do to prepare?
-
One of these days I might even truly finish off sorting through all the previous pastures I did last semester. :P
I update pastures by re-matching mares' AFPTs to the studs', matching new mares to studs by color preferences and genes, and hoping the new studs get enough mares to see how well they'll all do. -
I do basically the same thing as RoseFlute. Though I match by pattern safety first (all frame/white mares in one pasture then pick a safe stud for them). :)

Keeping everything organized is a headache of mine. I need to rename all my pastures and stables so I know whats in them. I normally trying to keep my boys free from anything lethal but let the girls have whatever they want. That's going to be a little harder now that I have all these RS boys as herd sirs. I'll have to go through them and the pasture before I breed anyone. I'll be doing that most of the night.

I organize all of my horses in an Excel spreadsheet. I have different sheets for different generations, different breeding projects, and sometimes different types of horses (like Rank Specials, Perfect Foundations, etc). Each sheet has info on all of my horses such as name, age, gender, color, etc as well as a column for any breeding precautions.
