DP in Buckskin
  • Ok so I'm curious about what people think this little boy is. I know he has at least one copy from his dad who is hom dp (het sty). However I have no idea is his mum got ANY dp from her parents, who are both het dp. The colt is darker than both grandparents which is why I'm guessing he is hom, but again noto too sure in horses that aren't Chestnut.

  • You can't compare the colt to his grandparents because they are brown buckskins and he is a regular bay buckskin.

This girl is definitely het DP and may be hom DP (parents are Dark Chocolate and Freaky Friday RSs)

  • Here is one that is definately Homozygnous DP. It has the At which also darkens buckskins to what I call "Brown Buckskin", which I don't know if it is a true terminology or not, but as you can see they are darker than than your foal. So I think your foal only has one DP.

  • She's (Tempo of Drums) a true breeding perlino (EE AtAt CcrCcr) so all of her offspring will have to be some shade of buckskin. If you can breed her to known homozygous DP stallions multiple times, you may be able to tell if she carries any DP or not based on the shades of her foals.
  • That's what I'm planning to do, Cheers. Just not used to spotting dp in Buckskins. This colts dad is hom dp, but het sty, but the only hom dp boy I have so he's good enough for the job.
