Welcome to HJ2! I'm glad you had a chance to fiddle around with the game. Putting your horses in the pasture was a great step. Be sure to do all the free testing, its free for a reason. ;) This helps you weed out the breeding horses from the horses that would do better of being strictly show horses. The show horses are the ones that bring in the hbs.

As for picking the color of the horse, we have daily herd helpers for that! They are still a surprise each day, but you can always check the "Herd Helper" forum to see if other members posted your dream color. Notice that some colors/patterns are less common than other, but its a great way to start looking. What color did you have in mind?
