What does everyone breed for?
  • Just curious what people are breeding for and what expectations the horse has to live up to to stay entire and be bred on..

As I'm only new I haven't set my sights on anything in particular.. So pretty much I am just breeding for flashiness..
I have a couple perfect foundation stallion.. And I will also use public stallions to add some colour/different lines..

Most of my foundation mares are perfect foundations also.. Although I do have the few that I had that throw good foals that I had before I decided to only breed from perfect foundations..

I'm 2nd gen fillies will only be starting to hit breeding age from next season but I have a couple of my own 2nd gen boys that I will use before I venture to going for outside stallions.. I seem to have lots of boys but not many girls and is so hard to decide which boys to keep entire! Perhaps ill see what they throw!

All my horses must pass strict breeding advice.. If I particularly like ones colour I may just do regular breeding advice but I'm yet to do so on any I've bred.. As much as I want colour I also want quality!

I like my 2nd gen boys to be b paper and girls red otherwise they get spayed (apart from one I bought) ..

Hopefully by being strict now by the time I get to higher generations ill have some great quality horses!

Sorry for the long post but just curious :)
Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.

    Horses generally always available.
    PM me for any enquiries.
  • Quality drafts! Although I love splash and frame together, and am working on s+, sty, appys and dp.
Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
    Prices are almost always negotiable.
  • Pearl and Satin together. Or pearl and Kitm together. Or W8 and satin and pearl together. Or splash and pearl and satin together. I breed for a lot of things lol
  • Quality over colour, always!! Once you have the quality established, then you can add the fun elements of colour and flashy genes - it also makes your horses more desirable if they are even bred and of good quality.

And make sure you use testing! If you're not upgraded, the best thing is the breeding advice; an upgrade adds the papering and comparison testing which is extremely helpful and premium can also get SBA (strict breeding advice).

Test and snip, test and snip - find your good eggs and bad eggs (so to speak!)

Flashy or expensive genes like pearl, satin, ice, kit M, S+ etc don't make sales, if the horse is poor quality or inferior to their parents! I breed with these genes, and I looove the results, but if the foal isn't good, then as much as it hurts, a snip snip is needed. It can be so sad to snip a pretty one/expensive baby but you'll always get another similar but of even better quality! :D

  • Though I'm still trying to build enough space to get serious with my breeding, I've currently fallen in love with blue roan drafts.
Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.
Striving to become a quality Draft breeder.

  • I am really trying to crack down on quality. Color wise I breed for DP (specifically chocolate palominos or liver chestnuts), Ice 13, 4 and 7, Sooty+, and Snowflake. I have a few other lines like satin in my upper generations but I do that as a side project, not a primary one. I am also starting a new Pearl line.
  • Besides that a good horse is never a bad colour, I'm trying for under 14 hh light ponies. Which is funny because when new here I bought a horse from MysticRose. His name is Little King. I forgot to read his height, 17.2 hh. My favorite pattern is leopard appys any colour.

  • I'm really trying to sort my lines out, and being able to paper mares earlier is really great. I mainly breed for DP, appaloosa (particularly leopards), Kit M and pearl. :)
